Can I Export a Customized Report Format and Import it Into Another Company File?

Seems like it's taken me forever to hone and tweak many of the memorized reports I customized to my liking.  I recently opened a new company and want to use some of the memorized reports I created from another company.  Is there a way to save and import these between company files? Thank you.

Can I Export a Customized Report Format and Import it Into Another Company File?

Yes and no.

The Accountant Edition can Export report templates as .qbr files.

Any QB desktop program can Import them.

Sometimes, the report will force you to change some settings to something more generic. After Import, you go back and refine it. For instance, selections of Multiple Accounts or a specific Class are often not allowed and need to be Fixed after import to other company file.

Thanks.  I'll ask my accountant to export and send them to me. I specifically use classes in all of them, so if these are messed up, I guess I'll have to just recreate them.  Arghh.  Thank you again.

Memorized reports do not transfer between platforms.

Oops, didn't notice this was Apple. Sorry. In most cases, I find noting my 5 or 6 customizations is the easiest thing to use for setting up that same report in another file, anyway. It doesn't seem any faster to export-import when your customization includes specifics that are unique to a file, even that is also in the other file. The report template will not let you keep them, anyway.

@Steve which program are you using? You might not have this function at all. This is a QB for Mac topic.

I appreciate your loyalty to QuickBooks, @tmosey. Let me share some information about importing custom report settings from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QBO and QBDT have different ways of reporting. The system brings all your report except for audit trail and memorized reports. I understand your interest in importing your custom report setting to the online platform. At this time, your option is to customize your reports in QBO after the conversion process.

Here's how:

  1. Click on Reports at the left pane.
  2. Open the report you need.
  3. Go to the Customize button to customize the information.
  4. Tap on Run report to refresh the page.
  5. Once done, click on Save customization.
  6. Enter the details, then Save.

You can also check out this article for more information: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

After that, you can access your memorized report from the Custom reports tab.

  1. Click on Reports.
  2. Tap on Custom report.

Additionally, you can get more hints while managing your reports in QBO from this material: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

On the other hand, these links will give your more insights about how your books move from QBDT to QBO:
