Conversion from Quicken to Quickbooks: Changed all vendors and customers to "other".

When we converted from Quicken to QB, it moved all our customers and vendors into "other" classification.  When converting them from other to either vendor or customer, the vendors ended up in as customers and their data moved into the customer side not the vendor side.  Is there a way to convert the customers and their data to vendor along with the data?  Thanks to any responders.......

No. Once other names are converted to another name type, they can't be converted to other types. Only other names can change type to another type.

Try opening the sample file in Quicken and convert it to QB Desktop. Did you encounter the same issue?

Conversion from Quicken to Quickbooks: Changed all vendors and customers to "other".

Thank you for taking the time to provide a comprehensive and detailed account of the challenges you faced while converting your data from Quicken to QuickBooks Desktop, Laperna. Your thorough explanation sheds light on the specific problem and helps us understand the broader context of the difficulties you were dealing with.

When converting from Quicken to QuickBooks, you may have encountered an unexpected behavior from the program that caused the conversion of your customers and vendors, along with their data, not to have been executed properly. Although there's a way to convert customers into vendors and transfer their transactions, this approach would be inefficient when dealing with a lengthy list of names and transactions since you'll need to manually inactivate the customers and add new vendors, then recreate all the transactions to the vendor side. It's advisable to redo the conversion process to rectify this issue. Here's how:

  1. Open the Quicken Converter, then tap Next.
  2. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, then Next.
  3. Click Next, then Install.
  4. Select Launch Quicken Converter, then Finish.
  5. Click I am transferring data from Quicken for Windows, then choose Get Started.
  6. Tap Open a data file located on this computer, then Select File.
  7. Browse to select your Quicken file (.QDF) file and select OK.
  8. Click Convert it!, then press OK.
  9. Hit Save, then select Exit to save your new Quicken Data File (.QDF) file.

Once done, you can start converting using the Conversion Utility in QuickBooks. Please refer to the steps below:

  1. Go to File, choose Utilities, then Convert.
  2. Pick From Quicken.

  3. Select the Quicken file (.QDF) that you want to move.
  4. The Conversion Utility will guide you through the rest of the conversion.

The measures outlined above should help you overcome the current challenges and align your data effectively. By implementing these strategies, you should be able to achieve a smoother and more accurate data integration process. If you have any further questions, encounter additional issues, or need clarification on any of the steps, please add a reply below. I look forward to ensuring a seamless transition and optimal use of your data in QBDT.

Thank you for trying to help.  This conversion was already done by our accountant.  I am at the point that the vendor transactions with the same name (with slight deviation) as customers are listed under the customer name whereas they should be under the similarly named but as vendor and their vendor transaction.  Is there away to mass convert the customer with the transaction history to the vendor file instead?

No, there's no way to convert a customer to a vendor.
