Error -6123,0

Am I the only one who continuously has issues with Error Code -6123,0?  I've run Quick Fix my program,  File Doctor, called Support, etc.  NOTHING WORKS!  I am to the point that I am looking for alternative ways to process payroll.  The only way I'm able to open a file is to try to open it, get the Error message, close out, try again, get the Error Message, close out, etc. for AT LEAST 5 times before it finally gives in and opens my company file.  I do payroll for up to 40 companies, and this is extremely time consuming.

Error -6123,0

I understand how you want to accomplish a task without wasting much of your time, I'll guide you on how you can fix this Asater.

Generally, you'll experience this error when MacAfee software is installed on your computer. But, if you see the error 6123,0 while restoring your company file (.qbw), make sure to restore it from the hard drive. If you’re restoring your company file from a backup (.qbb), here's what  you can do:

  1. If your file resides on the network or external storage device, move the backup file to your local hard drive. Don’t open them from an online storage folder or a removable drive.
  2. Follow the steps to restore your company file from a back up

If you see the error while restoring a backup (.qbb) on a new computer. You can create a portable company file (.qbm). And then, use it to restore your company file. Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop on the same computer you used to create the backup company file.
  2. Open your original company file as usual (not the backup).
  3. Create a portable copy (.qbm) of your company file.
  4. Open QuickBooks Desktop on the new computer.
  5. Restore your company file using the portable copy (.qbm) instead of the backup.

However, if this doesn't help, let's lower the security setting of your anti-virus and the firewall as well. There are times, these are one of the major factors why you're getting the error.

Once done, run as administrator in QuickBooks. We need to do this because often files will have to be updated from time to time, and QuickBooks doesn't have the proper permissions to be able to access or update those files. Check out the steps provided below:

  1. Shut down your computer to close all the running processes.
  2. Turn on your system.
  3. Search the QuickBooks program that you want to run, such as QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks POS.
  4. Right-click on the icon and then select the Run as Administrator option.

Lastly, update QuickBooks to the latest release. This will prevent us from experiencing data corruption and file issues.

After that, double-check if you're able to open QuickBooks without getting the error. If so, you can go back and change again the security settings of your anti-virus and firewall of what was previously your default.

Furthermore, you may also experience unrecoverable errors when using QuickBooks. Learn how to troubleshoot them by following the steps in this article: Troubleshoot Unrecoverable Error.

Error -6123,0

The solution provided by the technician I talked to seemed to work - but only for that day.  Today I'm back to having to restart my attempt to open a file a number of times before the file finally opens.  The technician's solution was to hold down ALT while opening the file.  It is supposed to suppress the security issues caused by McAfee.  However, it is not working at all today.
