Error message Something’s not quite rightYou and Craig Carlson were working on this at the same time. Craig Carlson finished before you did, so your work was not saved.?

I'm using the test site - trying to toggle Enable account numbers and check Show account numbers - but keep getting the same error message. I've cleared my cache and history, and even waited 2 hours. Still the same error message

Welcome to the Community space, @SampleAccountOwner. Exploring QuickBooks Online (QBO) using a test account is like using the program in a real-life setting. I'll share more details below and a workaround to get you through this.

As mentioned, test drives or accounts are closer to real-life QBO accounts. It allows you to experience what users with regular subscriptions have. Therefore, the prompt you encountered is a simulation where there are other users in the company with tasks they need to complete.

In a real-life setting, there's an option to set roles and permissions and apply them to other users in the account to limit what section of your business they'll have access to. For more details, please see this page: User roles and access rights in QuickBooks Online and Intuit Enterprise Suite.

Since you've already cleared your cache or history, I recommend accessing the test account using an incognito or private browser. This way, you can get firsthand experience setting up the program to recognize and use account numbers for the Chart of accounts. To begin, use these shortcut keys to access a private browser:

  • Safari 11 or newer: +Shift+N
  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

Once you're in, navigate to the Account and settings and enable account numbers in the Advanced tab's Chart of Accounts section. If it goes through, proceed to clear the browser's cache again. Refer to this article for further guidelines on how to clean a web browser's accumulated data: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

You can also consider accessing the test drive using other supported browsers. Please see this page for more details: System requirements for QuickBooks Online products.

In the future, when you purchase your first QBO subscription, you can check this page to help you set your company to your preference: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online.

I'm always ready to lend assistance in resolving other QuickBooks inquiries. I encourage you to communicate with me in the comment section below so I can respond as soon as possible. Stay safe.
