I forgot company file password on Quickbooks 2016 for Mac. When I select forgot password, all I get is that a security question was not entered and to contact the administrator, which it is already the only user. I never setup any users, so the default is "migrated administrator" which was automatic part of migrating from windows a couple of years ago. Need help to reset.
Hi @jdbkn1,
Let me route you to the best help available so someone can privately review your account and get your concern on your password reset addressed.
Here in the Community, we don't have a direct view of your account for security reasons. Thus said, I'd recommend contacting our Data Services Team.
They can pull up and look into your account in a secure environment and help you reset your password so you can access your company file successfully.
Lastly, I'll be also adding an article that'll help you handle your future tasks: Password Security for QuickBooks Desktop.
If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help.
I tried the recovery tool, but it said it was only for Windows versions - my version is mac 2016
I have tried the reset tool, but it is only for Windows versions - I have the Mac 2016 version
hi @jdbkn1 ,
You need to contact Intuit Data Service to reset the password. Another option, purchasing a password reset service to a 3rd party. I may recommend you one. PM me for details.
For QuickBooks Mac 2016 contact Intuit Data Services. They can reset your password over the phone. Don't use a third party tool - who knows what they are doing!
Newer versions (2019 and 2020) can reset your password without calling.
No they can't - I'm stuck in Migrated Administrator Password purgatory. I've know this password for years and it is not recognized and it hasn't been reset. I updated the license, reinstalled the software and when I click "forgot password" it says I'm not licensed. The $300 charge on my card says otherwise...very frustrating.
I want to make sure you can log in to your QuickBooks Mac, Charcreate.
I'd suggest reaching out to Intuit Data Services for an agent to reset your password. Here's how:
