I am considering using a hosting service for my QB files.  My client has 2-user version of QuickBooks Desktop 2020, with me as one user.  I have other companies in QuickBooks that I would also like to put in the  cloud. I have QB Desktop Accountants Version 2020.  Do we need 2 QB licenses, one for him and one for me, or can we use 1 license?

The hosting service I have talked with tells me they can create a separate folder for me, so my client cannot have any access to my other clients.

Hi there, @payroll pin.

Your client needs to purchase an additional user license for you so you can work together on the file. Let me guide you through the steps on how they'll do it.

  1. In their QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), go to the Help menu and select Manage My License.
  2. Select Buy Additional User License.
  3. The page that opens gives you the option to buy additional licenses online or by phone.
  4. Install QBDT on additional computers based on the number of licenses you purchased. Use the same license and product numbers you used to originally install QBDT.
  5. After installing, follow the prompts to activate QBDT.

You can also go to the Help menu then select Manage My License > Sync License Data Online to update your new license information.

Here's an article you can read for more details: Add a user license to your QuickBooks software.

Please keep in touch if there's anything else I can do to help you succeed with QuickBooks. I've got your back. Have a great day and stay safe.

@Rick Harris

If any of you or your client doesn't need any access to QB Desktop by LAN connection, you may put your license of QB 2020 Premier Accuntant and data files on any cloud hosting. Some points you have to consider:

1. Your QB license seats =  user access to the cloud service. If you have a licesne of QB 2020 for 2 users, you should purchase 2 user access for the cloud hosting provider.

2. You should put the license on an authorized QB cloud hosting. They will help you troubleshooting for any technical issue and have a direct channel to Intuit Support. You may explore one of them for reference
