Before starting my own business, I was a Continental Director of Sales and Marketing for a software company out of Copenhagen. I dealt with software developers all the time. In their universe, everything revolves around the software. IT calls the shots; the business side of the business using the software--the endusers--be damned. IT only talks about what it wants to talk about and it only deals with what IT thinks it should deal with. It is an arrogance that is simply breathtaking. Intuit continues to sell and market QBSE although it knows (but never explains, even as in Jen_d"s "response" above) that this is a product rendered virtually useless by its inability to synch with the rest of the QB software suite. The product is so hobbled by this (as one can read in every single comment above) as to be virtually useless at tax time. In fact, more than worthless: it is an impediment to a small businessperson's well being. I'm certain that every writer above would attest to the time and worry associated with this issue, long identified, but still unsolved. The manufacturer blithely and knowingly continues to sell a defective and deficient product under the enveloping cloak provided by their brand name recognizability.
Jen_D's appeal to the usefulness of The Community for answers ("we are here for you", "we're here to help you" & etc) and repeated assertions by QB employees that the issue has been sent over to the software engineers are just further instances of IT arrogance. Apparently the issue has been being sent to them for a long time already, but hey: it's an abandoned product and doesn't provide much income for the company, so who cares?
Well, Intuit--riding or the moment the wave of your success--we, who are now some of your doubting customers--DO care because instead of simplifying our business lives you are making it incomparably more difficult. That someone FAR up in the chain of command at Intuit hasn't taken the time to write and explain to us poor suckers down here 1) Why this situation ever came about; 2) Who is in charge of solving it; 3) Why the product continues to be sold; and 4) the date by which it will be solved.
The basic problem is the company has no interest in supporting this orphan of their software business. Otherwise, the problem would have been identified and solved a few years ago. At this point, Intuit should do the right thing and stop selling it. Just throw the baby out, and give us who have to start manually inputting transactions into QBO at tax time a price break on QBO.
Jen_D will not send this latest howl of customer dissatisfaction to anyone higher up in the chain of command than her immediate superior, or if she does or her immediate superior does, no one who receives it will do anything else other than put it at the bottom of a stack of other IT issues to be addressed later. A disgrace and shows contempt for your customer base.
Here I am, a month later, replying to my own comment since no one at *ntuit* has bothered to take the time to respond to me in any way, shape, or form. This lack of customer facedness surely fortells the end of Intuit as a market innovator and game changer. Cancel all your subscripitions and go find (in the coronaage when everything is up for grabs) something that actually pays attention and responds. It is a DISGRACE that those people on this string are ignored and probably laughed at behind the scenes. Intuit is just another JP Morgan and Wells Fargo: you suckers pay, we'll cash the check, now go fail you stupid suckers.
If anyone at at Intuit actually monitored these posts, I would get an answer to my original post but of course these IT cowards just coware behind their IT Corporate Logo and go to bed tonight, $15,000 every paycheck. Sleep well, kids, your days are surely coming.

It said we are able now switching from QBSE to QBO.

Hope it helps.
If I was looking to possibly hire a CPA to assist me in transitioning my QBSE date to online, where might one go to find someone?
My business is very junior as we have only been operating for 2 months now. I want to take advantage of this and move to QB online before we grow so large that making the movement is impossible. Can you please help?
Hi there, clayhoward.
Intuit aims to help users manage all of their accounting functions, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card management and financial reporting. We assist small businesses in managing their money.
You may consider contacting a QuickBooks ProAdvisor if you wish to have someone to help you with questions on utilizing the software. The following link will help you find one in your area: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/find-an-accountant/.
There is also available support that you can reach for assistance. We have well trained technical support specialists to help you with QuickBooks, as well as video tutorials and articles that you can use as a reference. I want to ensure that you get the most out of your software, so I'm including some of these resources to help you with the questions that you may have:
If you have other questions, just let me know. I'm always happy to assist you further. Have a great day ahead.
You can talk all you want, and talk to an adviser all you want until you turn blue. However, quickbooks desktop still is unable to do functions as described above. But hey, thats ok, we got another software to do the job that your programmers were unable to fulfill. I still cant believe you charge hundreds upon hundreds of dollars each year for such a crappy system. But hey, you got the name... and my book keeper seems to love you guys except for a few of these issues that I have to solve. And my AA degree is from 1986 when we used to solve problems rather than make more
Did you ever resolve this? I'm stuck in this situation
I’m also a tradesman that depends on travel for a huge part of my deductions. I thought I was dealing with a bad situation because I used QBSE for a week and a half before a friend told me to get QBO. I had purchase QBSE because my account told me to but as soon as I told my friend about it he started laughing. He told me to drop that shiddy app AND the shiddy idiot cpa that recommended it and get QBO. After reading what some of you went through I feel very lucky I only have almost two weeks to input. This is a stupid situation that shouldn’t ever exist! Intuit? Shame on you!
Have you found another program that isn't a sham? My bank account stopped syncing in SE (a QuickBooks glitch the "engineers are working on"!) - 4 months ago! I looked at upgrading to O due to business growth but you STILL can't sync with SE - and O doesn't offer mileage tracking that I need. What am I paying for again?? Next!
What other software did you find??? Quickbooks doesn't work.
@db85 wrote:and O doesn't offer mileage tracking that I need.
QBO has a mileage tracker feature.

Should you need a mileage tracker for your employees, a 3rd party app may help you. I noticed one time tracker app has been developing such feature.
I could not open the link. I'm trying to transfer my info from self employed to QBO I already have QBO and I am having a hard time trying to open self-employed it goes directly to online
Did I loose all my info from self-employed?
Thank you for joining the thread, @DIANE516.
Did you successfully switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to QuickBooks Online (QBO)?
If yes, all of your data from the previous software will be transferred to the QBO version. Thus, getting it back will be unavailable.
If not, you're might using an outdated link. This can be the reason why you're being directed to QuickBooks Online when signing in.
No worries, I can provide you an updated one so you can access your QBSE account. Simply click this link here: https://selfemployed.intuit.com/login.
When you're ready to switch, here's how to import your data and change your subscription: How to switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, I'd recommend downloading all of your work from QBSE before switching to QBO. This is optional, but it's a good idea to save your data for your records. Just follow these steps:
Let me know if you need further assistance with this. I'm always around to provide answers and clarifications to your questions. Have a great day ahead and take care.
And how do we download and transfer our Customer and Invoice info.
Currently not being able to is kinda a PITA.
Speaking to a chat rep for help, her solution was to download each invoice individually as a pdf.... which is ridiculous when you have 100s of invoices. Also not useful when QBO only wants a cvs file to import that info...
Over 4 years with so many people complaining about the same issue and absolutely nothing had been done.
ive been avoiding changing from QBSE for a year because of this, yesterday I got the subscription for a essentials package and guess what, I’m getting a refund, cancelling both QBO & QBSE
also my other 2 family businesses will cancel their QBSE, this is just a disgrace of a company really… 4 years at least and nothing changes
I’ll still have to put my data into a different software but at least I’ll put it into a software that actually cares for their customers.
but since the guys at the top are making the money why risk improving anything if they still make the money,
How did you all fix the transactions once you moved from QBSE to Simple Start? I just upgraded today and OMG it's a mess. It's showing things from 2019 that were paid and deposited into my account and are now showing as never having been deposited. The invoices are wrong. Everything is a mess. This is wild. Any input on how to fix all of this or where to start would be greatly appreciated. - Sincerely, One very stressed-out small business owner.
QuickBooks Self Employed and QuickBooks Online were designed separately and offer different functions, writermegs.
The former mainly track business income and expenses, calculates estimated taxes, and sends invoices for payment collection. It does not have a chart of accounts or a bank deposit feature similar to QBO. This is the reason why the payments are showing undeposited when migrating to QBO.
To clear it out, I'll help you make a bank deposit to transfer the amounts from your Undeposited Funds to your bank account. Here's how:
Also, invoicing in QBSE is only used for creating the transaction, sending to customers, and collecting payments. It's different from QBo where you can add inventories, add terms, and calculate sales tax. Although, you can edit or recreate them to correct your records. Seriously!!! I just bought this and it is now 2022. I have entirely lost access to everything I had on self-employed PLUS it won't migrate. There was even a choice during the process of switching that asked if I wanted to migrate my data. I said yes... Both of these are online versions, what the...! How can this even happen?
On top of all that, I guess I will have re-create everything because it is only downloading from my bank since the date I upgraded my subscription. I use the term "upgrade" loosely as it was an enormous DOWNGRADE that I wish I could undo at this point.
Incredibly frustrating, QBO is giving me an error that it won't upload due to it being over 1,000 lines.
Hi there, @alexandrapegues. I'm here to help you upload your file to QuickBooks Online.
You can only import spreadsheets with less than 1,000 rows. However, you can upload multiple files. You can split it into smaller files and import them separately.
Here's how to import data:
Additionally, there are some character limits and other limitations to be aware of when creating your spreadsheet. There are fields you’ll want to watch the length on so they don’t exceed the allotted amount of characters.

I notice this reply is from 2018, why is it still not possible to transfer my data from self employed to simple start when upgrading? I was going to upgrade but now I'm being told I can't bring over my invoices. This is unacceptable.

Keep in mind, you are not upgrading data from QBSE to QBO. They are 2 different products and actually you are migrating data. In many cases, you may have to manually migrate data to QBO

Hello, dreid84.
Thanks for sharing your feedback with migrating QBSE data to QBO.
This is something we don't take lightly, and we understand how it affects our customers. While we don't have a direct tool to transfer data from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online, you can consider checking for third-party apps that handles data conversion between QuickBooks platforms..
Visit our applications website here: https://apps.intuit.com/app/apps/home
