Currently, you can only run the General Ledger standard report in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Let me guide you with the steps.
A General Ledger report shows a list of transactions from all accounts for a specific date range. Examples of these accounts include asset accounts such as Cash, Accounts Receivable, Equity, and Undeposited Funds. You can choose between Cash or Accrual basis when running this report and you can also filter it by selecting only those accounts you want the report to show you.
You can also customize reports in QBO. Please check this article for reference: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Online.

I work for a non-profit and need to use the Class Function for fund accounting. I need to see the beginning balances of each class when I open the general ledger for that class. I also want to see the ending balance for that class for a specific time period. This is available in the desk top version. Is it available for the QB online version?
There has to be a way?
Hello there, @chollingshead!
Let's customize your General Ledger report to see the beginning balance of your accounts by class.
From here, you can also read this helpful article for ideas about saving a report after customizing it: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

I appreciate the assistance. However, I do know how to run a general ledger report. I need to know how to view beginning balances and ending balances in the general ledger report I request by class. I can see a P & L by class and see net income. How do I see the ending balances in a particular period by class in the general ledger.
PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION and not how to run reports or memorize reports. I know how to do that. I have been using Quickbooks for 23 years. I am most disappointed in this particular portion.
Hello @chollingshead,
At this time, there isn't an integrated way of comparing the beginning and ending balance of your accounts in a single report. You'll want to export your Profit and Loss by Class report and your Trial Balance report and merge them in a single Excel file. This way, you can compare their respective beginning and ending balance.
In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about how you can export your reports: Export your reports to Excel from QuickBooks Online.
