I'm here to help transfer the master admin role in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

You can invite a new user or choose an existing one to become the master admin. The following steps will guide you through this process;

 

Invite a new user

  1. Go to Gear ⚙ icon at the right top, then Manage Users.
  2. Click Add user.
  3. Select Company admin as the user type, then hit Next.
  4. Enter the new user's info, then click Save.
  5. Your new user will get an email from quickbooks-email@intuit.com inviting them to your business. They need to select the “Let’s go!” link and sign in.
  6. To complete the process, follow the steps below to choose an existing user as your new master admin.

Choose an existing user

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks as the current master admin.
  2. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon at the right top, then Manage Users.
  3. In the User column, check if the user you want is listed as “Admin.” If they’re not, select Edit ✏ to change them to an admin.
  4. Click the small arrow under the Action column to the right of the user.
  5. Select Make master admin.
  6. Be sure to sign out of the previous master admin account to make it official.

If you no longer have access to the email associated in QuickBooks, you need to process an Email Change request. This is because there's only one (1) master admin in the system. Feel free to read through this article for more details: Change the email address you use to sign in.

We employed a bookkeeping firm to open up our Quickbooks account but we have since parted ways with them. They can't / won't transfer Master Admin rights back to company ownership. What can we do in this case? Can Quickbooks support make the transfer for us?
