How do I get around the 60 day limit to export Desktop company to Quickbooks Online?

Hi there, userqbo2.

Currently, there are no workaround or options to override the limit to export your QuickBooks Desktop data to QuickBooks Online.

Importing data to your QuickBooks Online account is only available within the first 60 days of your QuickBooks Online company start date.

You can check out these articles to learn more about importing data to QuickBooks Online:

Post your concerns or click the reply button below for questions and clarifications about importing data. I'll be around. Keep safe!

@userqbo2

You may open a new blank QBO account with the same email address.

I think this is the worst update; so many clients will set up the QBO in preparation. Why set a limit?

Please return the import company desktop data to QBO... the link is there but only leads to a video that takes you around the same circle!  Not happy!

How do I get around the 60 day limit to export Desktop company to Quickbooks Online?

I don't get why there's ANY limit on when to export desktop data to online.  I applied and have been paying for online for several months, but have been so swamped with work that I haven't been able to take the time to get the on-line version established.

I am ready to kill my subscription completely at this point if I can't get my desktop data imported.  Please provide a WHY explanation so I understand why the limit imposed to begin with.

Hello there, @carolee8.

I understand your sentiments about migrating QuickBooks Desktop to the Online version.

I'm here to share a few details about the converting limitation from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Some information may not transfer due to import limitations and feature differences between QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.

You can only import QuickBooks Desktop data within the first 60 days of your QuickBooks Online company start date. When you import, your Desktop file will replace your Online file and overwrite any existing information.

I suggest you keep your data file in QuickBooks Desktop and maintain your transactions on both sets of books until you determine QuickBooks Online is right for your business.

To learn more about the limitations, please check out this article: What data doesn't convert from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online?

I added this link for the common question about converting your account from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

In addition, If you receive any errors while importing, you can fix errors when converting to QuickBooks Online.

If there's anything else you need help with, please reach out to me. I'd be sure to jump in as soon as I can. Thanks for posting, and have a great day.

@carolee8

What I suspect is that they enforce this policy to avoid users converting data from QB Desktop casually. The conversion process requires a workload on their system and may severely affect the entire system.

The question for you is why you are reluctant to cancel your account and open a new blank one. You will get a discounted price instead of using the old account for sure.

This is very inconvenient and frustrating!

I have my subscription from TechSoup.  Getting another subscription is not an option. What should I do?  Should I start January 2023 online and keep my backup copy from my desktop version?  How do I read the backup should I ever need to?  I will no longer have access to the desktop version soon.

@SheHei

You may have 2 options:

1. Sign up for a new trial account and convert your QBD company file. If you find no problems with the conversion results, you'll get the same results when you convert data to your Techsoup account.

2. Secure your backup files for QBD and start your data from scratch in QBO. If you use QBO Plus, consider having a backup recovery app to lower any risk.

Welcome to the Community page, @SheHei. I'll shed light on the details regarding exporting data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you choose to use the QBO, you'll need to move your QBDT data to QBO and subscribe to our online version.

You can also download the 30-day trial of QBDT if you pick to stay with this desktop version.  Just make sure that your computer meets the operating system, hardware, software, and other requirements to run QBDT 2023. Refer to this article for more information: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2023.

Once you've decided on the plan that suits your business, follow these steps on how to upgrade your subscription:

  1. Go to the Gear icon ⚙ and then choose Account and settings.
  2. Click the Billing & Subscription tab, proceed to the QuickBooks Online section, and hit Upgrade your plan.
  3. Review the available plans and then select Choose plan.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to upgrade your plan.

See this article for more information about upgrading and managing your subscription: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription.

Once done, you can now create budgets. Check this article for detailed guidance: Create and import budgets into QuickBooks Online

How do I get around the 60 day limit to export Desktop company to Quickbooks Online?

We signed up for online with understanding it would be about 60 days till we could convert from desktop to online.  We were advised that we had 90 days by 2 different sales people.   We get to day 65 and get the 60 day limit....  So what are options to get out of the mess we now find ourselves in....??   We need options not someone repeating it is a 60 day hard limit.....  There is nothing customer friendly about this 60 day limit deal - it ignores the real world companies operate in...

@RCWA-MBL

Where is your company located? QBO US version only offers 60 days limit. But QBO Global version offers 90 days limit.

How do I get around the 60 day limit to export Desktop company to Quickbooks Online?

We are in North Carolina, USA    We were convinced to proceed with signing up when we did to take advantage of a discount sale for first year.   Had to be signed before end of May.   We could make a 90 day window and we were told that was good.   It is obvious at this point that there was a major disconnect on this issue.   All we want at this point is what option that gets us out of this mess other than just moving on to another to another vendor product which is increasingly sounding like a better solution then most of the responses on this topic.  We had extended discussion with QB product staff on our needs and consensus was the solution we signed up for ....   With 40+ years in large system software environments, I have never encountered such an odd product limitation as this.   Just need a solution so this gets moving.....
