Buy nowI appreciate that Intuit is working to boost security, but passkeys won't work for me.
How can I stop getting promoted to create one, Every. Time. I. Log. In.???? The login process is already tedious enough, particularly if I use a new browser instance, and I need to click Skip multiple times a day.
I tried to get help via chat, but I'm afraid that was a waste of 45 minutes.
Thanks,
Don
Thank you for getting in touch, Don. I completely understand that the prompt might seem inconvenient, but I want to assure you that it is a key measure to bolster the security of your account. I'll provide you with more details about the passkey and how it contributes to your safety.
A passkey is a secure alternative to passwords and two-step verification. It simplifies the sign-in process by replacing multiple steps with just one. Your device securely stores passkeys, keeping them away from websites and apps, which makes them resistant to phishing attacks.
You only need to enroll once, and from there, you can sign in using the same method you unlock your device either with a screen lock or biometrics. This means your passkey remains safe even if your device is lost or stolen.
If you ever switch devices, you'll still have access to your passkey as long as your new device uses the same operating system or password manager (like Apple, Google, or Microsoft). Your keychain or password manager will sync and allow you to use the same passkey across multiple devices.
At the moment, you have the option to easily skip or disregard the prompt. While it can't be completely prevented from appearing, this flexibility allows you to engage at your own pace.
In addition to this, if you're looking to update your email address, user ID, password, or any other information related to your QuickBooks account, feel free to visit this guide: Update or change your Intuit Account sign-in information.
Your security is our utmost priority, and we truly care about your experience. If you have questions regarding your account information or any QuickBooks-related concerns, please feel free to reach out. My team and I are always ready and willing to help. Have a good one.
Thanks. I understand what passkeys are. But they are not portable, because I don't use the same operating systems. That's the problem.
But really? There is no way to get that prompt to stop appearing? That is super annoying, and it makes an already burdensome authentication system worse.
Don
100% agree. Great, you want to increase security...give me the option, don't force it down my throat when I don't want it. It's as if QuickBook engineers sit around all day and ask "How can we make use of the program even more cumbersome than it already is?" instead of dedicating their time to fixing long standing issues like downloaded transactions showing up twice. This has been going on for a year and nobody ta QB could care less. I recommend to everyone I speak with to use anything but QB. The only thing they are efficient at is price increases. This program was $20/month when I started using it, now its $60+, cause you know, inflation has been running at 200% the past decade...
I do not believe that linking my Windows account with my Quickbooks account via a passkey is something that will help to increase the security of my data or improve my user experience, and I do not think that you believe that either. This should be an account option for those who want it, not something that we have to decline Several.Times.Every.Day like the incessant popups in the UI while we are trying to work. These things are for someone's benefit, but they are not for the users' benefit.
Hi all.
A while back I accidently said yes to the passkey promt, and it linked my QBO account to my windows sign-in ( I agree with other comments that I cannot see how this is an "Increase" in security) - any-who, I wanted to turn this off, and I followed the instructions here - https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/multi-factor-authentication/use-passk...
Note that the little nugget of missing info in these instructions is that you must select "Manage Your Intuit Account" from the user icon (next to the settings) in QBO in order to sign in to your Intuit Account
There is a section in the instruction on how to delete a linked passkey - I followed this, it removed the inadvertently linked windows sign-in. This great thing is that it no longer pesters me about setting up a passkey - I can once again just log onto QBO.
I hope this approach works for others - if not, lucky me.
AGREE 100%. We should not have to decline creating a passkey each time we log on. It is a total waste of time. We are accepting the risk of not using it. I personally do not believe that linking to another app is any kind of increase in security. Please remove this!!!!
I agree. I have multiple QBO accounts and use multiple desktops. Not to mention that I have a tendency to wear out a PC and need to reinstall OS or replace the device more than most.
Waiting for me........each and every time I manage to get around the around the passkey pop-up (which can't be disabled in Chrome) are the tasks of grabbing the email verification code and my authenticator 2FA code. So nice.
What do all the keyclicks get for me?
