How do you log a refund on a credit card? Quickbooks default is a "transfer but I think that is throwing off the books.

Welcome to QuickBooks Community, tedward77!

There's a better way to enter credit card refunds. Let me help you.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the + New button and select Credit card credit.
  2. Find the appropriate credit card account.
  3. Under the Category details, select the account where you want to track the refund.
  4. Enter the other needed information and tap Save and close.

You can also use the Credit card credit option if you receive cashback or rewards to your credit card account.

Did you link your account to online banking? You'll want to check this link on how to organize it: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Thanks. I did that but the transaction still shows up from my auto transactions for my Amex card as needing action.

Hi tedward77!

I'll be happy to help you in handling the refund.

You can exclude the downloaded refund and manually record it like how Alex explained in his answer.

  1. Go to the Banking page.
  2. Select the downloaded refund.
  3. Choose Exclude.
