How to display rows by class, in Online reports?

Hello, Raphael.

I appreciate your time visiting us here. While we’re unable to give a specific time frame when this feature will be added, you can follow the workaround provided by forzacpa. This process will help you group the transactions by class.

Here's a sample screenshot of what it looks lie:

To help improve your QuickBooks Online experience, I recommend sending a request by going to the Gear Feedback. The information will be forwarded to our Product Development Team for assessment.

You can also visit our QuickBooks Blog for the latest news and feature releases.

You're always welcome to come back here if you require any further information. Take care and stay safe.

Thanks for the feedback. It is very unfortunate that a year later it's still not implemented.

The workaround you gave me do not seem to work for me. Most transactions show as positive no matter if they are debit or credit, resulting in a balance that is totally wrong. (see attached file) Not sure if I'm doing something wrong here...

I learned a trick - create a blank Budget by Class - literally a blank budget - don't enter any numbers, then run a Class vs Budget report.  With this report you will find the ability to swap columns for rows.  Also choose totals only when customizing. You will still have to export to excel to delete the budget columns.

Have we had any more updates or progress on this? I am also looking to figure out how to do this. Thank you!

I appreciate your time visiting here, @amcnellis.

Currently, the option to display rows by class is still unavailable. We’re also unable to give a specific time frame on when this feature will be added.

You can follow the suggestion provided by @forzacpa as a workaround. This will help display a transaction report filtered by expense account and grouped by class.

I can see how the functionality to display rows by class in the QuickBooks Online reports would be beneficial to your business, Michiel23. Your voice matters to us.

As of now, we don't have an exact time frame on when this feature will be added. Thus, I'd suggest submitting a feature request to our Product Development Team. This helps us improve your experience with the program.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear menu and then select Feedback.
  2. Type in your feature request in the description box.
  3. Once done, click on Next.
    Capture.PNG

Also, you can track feature requests through the Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online website.

In the meantime, I'd suggest following the shared workaround of one of our users. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Profit and Loss by Class.
  3. On the Total Expenses row, click on the amount in the Total column to drill down to the transaction level.

You can also export your reports to Excel. Then, customize them to show the classes.

Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you personalize your reports in QuickBooks Online. This helps you get the most out of your financial data: Customize Reports.

I'm only a post away if you need more help in completing your other tasks in QuickBooks, Michiel23. It's always my pleasure to help you out again.

For crying out loud!!!

Can QB please simply implement the request WITHOUT a workaround???

So many people are in pain because of not being able to show Classes in Rows.

Please make something happen straightforward. It has been years, and causing me real damage for my accounting reports.

Kindly,

We hear your sentiment, YM2020.

I can see how essential this would be for you and other users to display rows by Class. As of now, the option to display them is still unavailable. Please know that due to the high volume of feature requests, our engineers might still not have reviewed your feedback.

For us to establish this idea, I'd recommend resending this relevant request to our product engineers. This way, they'll consider this idea and will work on its progress to include them in our future product enhancements.

Here's how to send feedback:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top and select Send Feedback Online.
  2. Click on Product Suggestion and enter your feedback or suggestion.
  3. Once done, tap Send feedback.

Moreover, you can check out this article to guide you in customizing and adding specific data information when running your reports: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Online.
