You’re in the right place for help, @respinola. I’ll help you with locating backup files using a Mac in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
The Documents folder is where the default location is. You can also locate your company file by going to the Help option on your Mac screen and selecting Product Information. That is located at the bottom of the page.
The other way around to locate backup files on a Mac is to type (*.qb) without the parenthesis to perform a wildcard search. This way, you'll be able to find all QuickBooks-related files on your Mac computer.
Once you've identified a potential match for your previous company file, make a note of where it is and open it in QuickBooks to check whether you can still access it.
In addition, you can check out this article for troubleshooting guides for this kind of issue: Company file is missing or cannot be found.
Let me know if you need further assistance with backing up data. I’ll make sure to get back to you as soon as I can to provide assistance. Have a great day!
Thank you very much for your help with this.
My documents folder is empty and nothing comes up when I do a search for *.qb.
I’m using QB online and the Help menu doesn’t have the Product Information at the bottom of the page.
Anything else I can try?
Allow me to join in this conversation, @respinola. I’ll share my thoughts and help you locate your company file in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
If you have connected your Google Drive or Dropbox account, you can access the file from there. Otherwise, I suggest connecting them with QuickBooks.
Here’s how:
By doing this, you can easily save your file and secure its backup location. Just make sure to take note of it. To continue restoring your data from a backup, kindly click this link.
On the other hand, if you haven’t connected them, you can try looking for the missing file into the Downloads folder. You can also look for it on your MAC's help or search bar below.
If it didn’t make any difference, I suggest reaching out to our customer care support so a live agent can take a better look at this. You can send a message via chat or call us at a time convenient to you. Please make sure to see our support hours so we can address your concerns on time.
Additionally, you can manually download the data out of QuickBooks. You can then save them on your local hard drive. If you're ready, you can follow this article to guide you through the process: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.
I’ll also add this link to learn more about data backup with QuickBooks Online.
Feel free to hit me back if you have other QBO backup concerns. I'll take care of them for you. I’d always be glad to assist you in managing your company file. Keep safe!
