I've got some steps we can perform to access your company file, ylwildcats.

A file property is set to a "read-only" format can be caused by several factors, among these are:

  • when transferred from a CD-ROM, file properties may default to "read-only" status
  • a previous user may have applied the "read-only" status to the file(s) and saved it/them

This prevents changes from being saved and taking effect. To change it to Write access, just  follow the steps below:

  1. Launch the File Explorer application on your computer and navigate to the directory in which the read-only QuickBooks file is stored.
  2. Right-click the affected file and click "Properties" on the pop-up menu that appears.
  3. Tap the "General" tab, if necessary, and then remove the check-mark from the "Read-Only" checkbox.
  4. Press the OK button.

Once done, set QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to run as Admin. The steps below will guide you through the process:

  1. Close QuickBooks. Thenopen the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type “QuickBooks” into the search field of your computer.
  3. You'll see the results listed in the Search window.
  4. Right-click on the QuickBooks version and year you'll want to open.
  5. Select Run as administrator.
  6. Press OK.

Once done, open QuickBooks Desktop for Mac and restore your file. Feel free to visit our QuickBooks Help Articles page for more insights about running your business in your account.

I'm just one reply away if you need a hand with importing/exporting your data file or any QuickBooks related. I'll be here to ensure your success. Take care always.

I have gone to properties and the read only is not checked off?  I am still getting it on the laptop when I try to restore?

Thanks for joining this thread, summers1. I appreciate that you've followed my colleague's troubleshooting process to ensure your company isn't set to read-only access.

Since you've confirmed its Read-Only option is currently unchecked, but you're still unable to open the file, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in.

Here's how:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Help, then QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of the issue in our Ask a question (or tell us what's wrong) field.
  4. Hit Continue.
  5. Select We’ll contact you for callbacks or Message Us to start an instant messaging session.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a lovely day!
