I have QuickBooks Premier 2015 and recently purchased 2018. How can I update without messing up my licensing? I also have a payroll subscription tied to this account.

I am the treasurer for my church and purchased our first QuickBooks program from the TechSoup non profit donation program.  It's QB Premier 2015 for Non Profits.  I recently purchased Premier 2018 and it has a new license # and Product ID.  I had a devil of a time getting the Payroll subscription linked to the current license and I don't want to go through that hassle again.  Do I merely link to the Intuit account and it's then recognized correctly?

Your payroll subscription is embedded in your company file and travels with it.

When you upgrade to a new version of QB, there is nothing special do to related to the subscription.

At end if upgrading your file, QB will prompt you to connect and get the latest payroll updates and then you'll be ready to continue using payroll.  That's it!

Great to hear from you, kae.lhbc.

I appreciate you checking in with us. Helping out with turning on your payroll is my priority.

If you've already installed and restored the company file in QuickBooks Premier 2018, it would be easier for you to turn on your payroll subscription. All you need is to re-validate the payroll service key (if you have an active payroll subscription) in your new QuickBooks version.

Here's how:

  1. Click Employees.
  2. Choose My Payroll Service.
  3. Select Manage Service Key.
  4. In the lower-left corner of the screen, click Edit.
  5. You can see your service key number.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Wait for the payroll update to finish.
  9. Close QuickBooks and log in as the administrator.

However, if you don't have the payroll service key number with you, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team. They will help you activate your payroll subscription in your new QuickBooks and further assist you with all the things you need.

You can go ahead and give them a call. Everything will be taken care of for you. Please know that I'm just a post away if you need anything else. Wishing you continued success.

Hi there, @Admin68.

Glad to have you back here in the Community. I'm here to assist you with checking out the status of your subscription so you can get back on track.

Are you referring to your payroll subscription? If so, let's make sure that the payroll subscription has been activated to your new QuickBooks by checking it's service key.

Here's how:

  1. Click on Employees at the top.
  2. Select on My Payroll Service.
  3. Click on Manage Service Key.
  4. Make sure that the service key is correct.
  5. Select Next and then
  6. When the Payroll Update message appears, select OK.
  7. Verify the Service Status shows ACTIVE and then select OK.

To learn more about this process, please check out this article: Enter or Edit Your Payroll Service Key.

However, if the issue persists, I'd recommend giving our Payroll Care Team a call. They have the necessary tools to verify your account securely and check on the status of your subscription.

To reach them:

  1. Go to http://payroll.intuit.com/support/contact/.
  2. Select your Payroll Subscription type.
  3. Click Payroll.
  4. Click on the View Contact Info button to get their contact number.

Please let me know how it goes. I'll be around to provide additional assistance. Have a good one.
