If I am working on a Mac for Quickbooks desktop, will my year end back up be compatible with Windows?

I am new to doing bookkeeping for my husband's company and his accountant has a Windows computer and she said I could use a Mac as long as my backup at the end of the year is compatible with Windows. Will I need to convert it? Did I make a mistake by buying a Mac?

You should ask your accountant which QB Desktop edition she has. Does she have QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus or Accountant Plus?

Glad to have you here in the Community, @ashleyzinhobl.

You didn't make a mistake by buying a Mac since QuickBooks allows you to send your Mac file to an accountant who has Windows, and they send it back to you. This option is called round-tripping, and I'll be glad to share it with you on how to proceed.

Firstly, you'll have to move your QuickBooks for Mac file to QuickBooks for Windows. Then, send your company file to your accountant so they can make changes in QuickBooks for Windows. Lastly, restore the QuickBooks for Windows file from your accountant to QuickBooks for Mac.

Please know that when your accountant has your file, you'll have to hold off on installing any QuickBooks updates until you get your file back. Also, try not to enter anything new while your accountant has your file. This way you don't lose any records when you get your file back.
