Something strange is going on with my Job Profitability Report. One specific service item is showing zero under Actual Revenue. It looks like we never billed for it (it's a payroll line item). When we checked the customer invoices (there were about a dozen invoices), that item is definitely there along with some other payroll items that we passed to the customer. Others show up fine on the Profitability Report, but this one does not. We checked another Job where we billed for the same Service Item, and it doesn't show up there as well.
Is there a setting or something that disables a service item from showing as a revenue in the Profitability Detail report?
Hello there, eg77777.
You'll want to check the date range of the Job Profitability report that you run.
If you encounter the same issue, you can verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop. This will help your file to run a well-data checkup. It also helps to check the discrepancies on your data reports.
Once done, run again the Job Profitability report.
There is no setting that can disable a service item from showing as revenue. As long as you create a transaction, it will show as revenue on your report.
Let me know how it goes on your end. I'll keep an eye for your response. Have a good day!
Thank you for the response!
The range is set to "All" so that's not an issue. I haven't rebuilt the database yet, but one thing I found is that this particular service item was linked to a "Payroll Liability" account. The others were Payroll Expenses. I changed this service item to also be linked to Payroll Expenses, but it didn't seem to make a difference.
The workaround I found is to go into "customize report" and change the filter settings to show all accounts. That way these charges show up in the Revenue column. Regardless, what doesn't make sense to me is the Actual Costs show up in the Job Profitability report, but the Actual Revenues don't - unless I change the filter settings to show all accounts.
Would rebuilding the database fix it?
Thanks for getting back to us, @eg77777.
I appreciate you providing the steps you've done to get this working. Allow me to chime in for a moment and share some additional information about the Job Profitability Detail in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
This report is defaulted to give you all the transactions associated with an income and expense account. That is the most likely reason why this specific service item isn't showing on the Revenue column, since it was linked to a Payroll Liability account. Customizing the report and changing the filter to show all accounts is what we can recommend as a workaround.
