keeping popups on a single monitor in a dual monitor environment

I have attempted to fix this issue more than once and never can get it right?

I am using two monitors.  Quickbooks Pro Desktop loads on one of the monitors (right side) and most of the windows will open there without any issues.

But, when I click on an item that causes a pop-up to appear (i.e. - check register) it always shows on the 2nd monitor (left side).  This is annoying because quite frequently I have other applications open on the left side and the pop-up is hidden.

Can I set up the pop-ups so they also appear on the right-side monitor?

Thanks

EJ

Hello, GolfNut72.

Allow me to provide some information about the QuickBooks dual monitor.

Let me help ensure your QuickBooks will show on the main monitor.

First things first let's default your Desktop View so that QuickBooks will show on the left side of your screen. Let me walk you through the steps:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Once the pop up screen comes up, move & drag it to the main monitor.
  3. At the top menu bar, click Edit.
  4. Go to the Preferences.
  5. Select Desktop View.
  6. Click My Preferences.
  7. On the Desktop options, select the Save current desktop.
  8. click OK to apply the changes.

Here are some resources I've added to help you set your display settings:

Please feel free to let me know if you have other concerns with QuickBooks. I'll be more than happy to help you any time. All the best!

QuickBooks opens up on my left screen but pop up messages still open up on my right screen even after following those steps. That didn't change anything.

I appreciate your time in joining on this thread, ZenoDavis.

I'd like to share a solution to help you fix the pop-up messages.

If you're on Multiple Windows, we can try to change it to One Window and check to see if the pop-up message stays on one screen.

Here's how:

  1. Click View from the top menu.
  2. Select One View.

Then, close and reopen your QuickBooks Desktop for this change to take effect. If you don't like to have any pop-up messages, we can turn it off by following these steps:

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences.
  2. Select General and from the My Preferences tab, put a check mark on the Turn off pop-up messages for products and services.
  3. Click OK.

In addition, you can visit our general help topics page if you need help with other task. This page will route you to the related help articles, Community discussions, video tutorials, and more.

Please let me know how things go after giving this a try. I'd like to make sure this is resolved for you. Stay safe!

I may have figured out a solution if none of the posted solutions worked for you (they didn't for me). I think I was having the same issue. Any warning pop-ups, additional windows, and even the "Enter Company Password" window would always pop up on the same screen regardless of which monitor I had QB on at the time.

  • Get QB on the screen you want it on all the time, click the Edit dropdown at the top left > click on preferences > click on Desktop View
  • Under the My Preferences tab, click on Display under Windows Settings which opens your computer's display settings. Scroll down to Multiple displays and check the box "Make this my main display

THIS WORKED - This is the accurate fix. Thank you! The pop ups go to a separate screen because it by default goes to the display that is selected as the Main Display. For some reason it wouldn't authenticate (?) when I tried to cheer your reply to promote it. Hopefully people see this if they are looking for this solution themselves. This is how to make sure the pop up / pop out screens in QuickBooks Desktop will display on the same monitor you are actually using, if you typically use a specific monitor for your QuickBooks. The pop outs being referred to: select register, (Shortcut is CTRL + R) payroll details, etc. Not necessarily talking about the promotional pop ups.

** Information to add. (Using Windows 11 so some options may look different for other versions)

If your option for "Make this my main display" is greyed out..

>Try to move the settings screen to the monitor you want to change settings on, moving the screen between displays will sometimes have it detect with display the screen is on.

>If that didn't work, you likely have the main display 'selected' already which is why it is not an option.

>You will need to click on the graphic showing the displays detected and select with display you want to make changes for - for me it shows a square and the heading says Select a display to change the settings for it. Drag displays to rearrange them.  Inside the square there are two grey boxes with the numbers 1 and 2 / 2 and 1 depending on your set up. I had to make sure to click on the monitor square 2 because Display 1 is my laptop and was previously selected as the main display. Once I clicked the box labeled 2 in the graphic, the option to make display # 2 my main display was an available and I just had to click the check mark.

>Check if it worked by using the shortcut for selecting a Register, CTRL + R.

**I use my laptop connected to a larger monitor and so I will typically always move my QB screen to the larger display when I am working with it connected to be able to see it displayed larger. If you go through this and then use it on a different screen such as the laptop (with the other display connected) the pop up will still go to whatever display is the Mian Display. This doesn't fix or turn off the default in QuickBooks. Also, important to note that when you choose this setting to make an external display my main display, such as using a laptop and another monitor, as long as you have the option "minimize windows when a monitor is disconnected" selected, when you disconnect the other display your laptop will become the main display again and all your applications minimize and are available on your laptop. If you unselect that option it may be dificult to access a screen that was being used on the other display when you disconnect the external display.

>Information because I tested it out myself. by default when nothing else is connected, the multiple displays option is not available under settings. Your popups will be visible and won't be lost showing on a display that is not connected.  Hope this helps!
