Hi, @SwaimBusSolns.
It's my priority to give you the best possible experience while working and QuickBooks Online (QBO) and running your reports. Thus, adding every month and year-to-date comparison on the Budget vs. Actual report is a great addition to QuickBooks.
I'll take note of your feedback so our engineers will be aware of the feature needed. You can also send your request through your QBO account. I'll guide you on how.
Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development Team to help improve your experience in QBO. You can track it through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.
Alternatively, you can visit the QuickBooks Blog to stay current with the QuickBooks latest news and feature enhancements.
While waiting for updates, you can customize or export your reports to get the information you need. For more tips about handling your QuickBooks reports, you can open these articles:
Please feel free to get back to me here if you have any other additional questions about the Budget vs. Actual report. I always have your back. Cheers for more success!
This report should be the STANDARD report. It is ridiculous that it is not available.
I am evaluating the product, but I will not purchase it without these types of standard forms. Hope this will help prioritize the feature as it impacts at least one future subscription.
I also need this report - it is unfathomable that such a basic accounting report is not available in QBO. Almost EVERY business needs to run budget vs. actual reports for a snapshot period compared to the entire year's planned budget. To not have this option is completely irresponsible to say the least. It is quite literally one of the most basic, and most used accounting reports. I just don't understand....
I am another one who needs this basic report. It is completely unfathomable why it's not available, especially since it evidently is in the desktop version. Any non profit needs it. It should be the standard report. Cannot understand how, after upgrading to get the budget option, that the budget option is almost unusable, due to the unavailability of needed reporting. An overview of the budget itself is only helpful when building the budget. The budget/actual Monthly and YTD are needed EVERY MONTH.
I think this report will get you what you want:
Profit and Loss Budget Performance
You then customize report
This will give you a report that shows Last Month actuals, Last Month Budget, $ Over Budget, YTD actuals, YTD budget, $ over budget, Annual Budget
What I would like to see, which does not show up, is the YTD variance over the annual budget. I want to be able to show how much is remaining in the annual budget for each GL account. Does anyone know a work around for this?
Providing you with a report that will show you the annual budget is our top priority, Ckoory.
QuickBooks ensures that you'll be able to get the right information in the right place. That's why we've made it easy for you to customize reports. For now, the information you want to show on your report isn't an option. However, we'll make sure that this will be considered in the future. You'll want to go to our Customer Feedback page to check if a request has already been submitted by other users. If not, you can submit feedback to let our product team know how this benefits your business.
In the meantime, you may want to export your reports to Excel. From there, you'll be able to consolidate your data and be able to come up with the information. Please check this article for more detailed steps: Export Reports To Excel From QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, I've outlined this article that will show what are the reports included in your subscription: Reports Included In Your QuickBooks Online Subscription.
Drop a comment if you need further assistance with reports. I'll always be right here to help you all the time.
Are you talking about QB online? I know that report is available on desktop but everyone here is trying to get that report online. If it is online, how did you find it? When i type it in the search bar, nothing comes up. Thanks.
here are the steps i use:
Select Budget vs Actual, then Run Report
Download to Excel. Once in Excel, Hide monthly columns up to desired month; Hide monthly columns after desired month (be sure to Hide, rather than Delete)
You shouldnt have to Hide the other months, but this way still sounds easier than what you describe above.
Good luck
Where did you find a report named "Profit and Loss Budget Performance"?
Still not being able to run the Budget vs Actual Report (current month and YTD) in 2022 :(
I think all agree this is a fundamental feature and much needed.
I hear you, @danielps.
I'm here to help share insights about the details of your report in QuickBooks Online.
As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way to generate a budget vs actual report showing only your data within the current month and year-to-date transactions. And I'm also unable to provide the exact turnaround time as to when such a feature like this is added to the program.
Rest assured our developers are constantly taking in the voices of our customers, like you, to ensure you got the best experience while keeping your business growing with us. While the option is not yet available, I recommend getting in touch and letting our product developers know about this by sending a request via feedback. I'll show you how.
For now, I'm including our Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online page to track the status of your request and get the latest updates from our developer team. Updates such as how the recent enhancement made to QBO helps our business owners, like you.
It'll always be my pleasure to help if you've got other questions aside from generating reports in QuickBooks. Use the Reply button and leave your comment below so that I, @JonpriL, can assist you further. Take care always and stay safe!
is this for quickbooks online or quickbooks desktop?
is this for quickbooks online or quickbooks desktop
January 2020 - August 2022...that is exactly 32 months. I know updating software takes time. How many requests need to be submitted to quickbooks online to make this report available? I need to rally the troops!
Hi there, thanks for joining the conversation with us on the QuickBooks Community!
I definitely understand how important this feature is for many of our customers, including yourself. While customer requests are a big part of our process when rolling out new features and reports, there are many additional factors that go into deciding the QuickBooks Online product roadmap.
We appreciate the continued feedback. Rest assured, our development team has heard you and will do all they can to address your needs in product.
This product is terrible for essential financial reporting. They keep adding bells and whistles unnecessarily but can't/won't even create a simple budget report that compares actuals to YTD budget. It's not that hard but QBO doesn't care. If they did listen to customers, we would have had it years ago.
Has this functionality been added to Quickbooks Online? Would you please provide an update? This would be a very logical and useful tool to have. My board of directors would like to see this report on a regular basis, and right now the manual process to create it is extensive. It should be easier.
Agreed. That this functionality isn't offered is ridiculous.
Hi there, @AnneEEEEEE.
Know that this isn't the kind of service we want you to experience in QuickBooks. At the moment, the functionality isn't available in QuickBooks Online.
However, this idea is brilliant, and other users may also find this useful.
In the meantime, you can directly submit feedback to our software engineers to raise this suggestion. They may consider adding it to our future product updates.
Here's how:
I you want to stay in the loop about the new features and product updates, you can visit this link: QuickBooks Online Blog.
You can also click this link Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online to track the status of your request and get the latest updates from our software update team.
It is an honor to assist you today. If a question pop-up in your mind about QuickBooks Online, know that I'm always here willing to extend my hand. Just click the Reply button below. Keep safe and take good care of your health!
But this doesn't show my budget edited to be YTD. I can change the date from the end of the month to say, the 18th, but the budget for January still shows the TOTAL month. I need the budget to do some math so it matches the actual time period rather than totals by month. Is there at least a way to enter the budget weekly so that I can get some acurate comparison WITHOUT downloading to Excel??? If I wanted to do every freakin' thing in Excel, I wouldn't pay for QBO.
I don't understand why Intuit didn't just port the same reports we get in QB Desktop to the online version. This lack is causing me to NOT go to QBO for another client. On the whole, most bookkeepers and accountants agree the QBO is an inferior product and we are all looking for an alternative that will give us the reports we routinely need (like the one being referenced above as well as a current period and YTD report).

This is a foundational reporting need. QBO, please update your budget report options to include this very important report!
Wow! Does QBO ever miss the point. The idea for this report is NOT BRILLIANT—just so basic only a rank amateur would think it is unnecessary. QBO makes itself decidedly INFERIOR by not only understanding the need for such a report but by ignoring the requests of users for months (years). Please quit saying how sorry you are and JUST GET IT DONE. Hate to say it but the response to the requests is simply unacceptable.
I had overlooked the Export to Excel option. Thank you!
