My client uses QB Desktop (I am not sure what version) and I want to open it in one of our many other versions of QB. We have QB Premier - Accountant Edition (many years) and QB Enterprise Solutions - Accountant Edition (many years). Can I do this and if so how? Do I need to save a backup in a particular fashion to make it work? Thank you.
You can open any Pro or Premier file in Premier Accountant using the same or newer version year.
I you use the same version year, then the file won't be upgraded (if you care.) If you upgrade it to a newer version year, and then return it to your client, then they won't be able to open it.
So, you may want to ask the client what their version year is, and use that year. The F2 dialog in QB shows the year at the top of the window.
You can do this with a backup, or a portable file, or a standard company file.
Ask your client to open their company file and hit f2 key to make sure which QBD year version they have. Then they may send you the Accountant's copy.
Thanks for the information. It still won't open. The file extension is qbw.nd
Do those seem familiar at all?
Find any file of *.QBW, *.QBB or *.QBM
