QB for Mac Admin Password-Restored Backup

I am an accountant.  Client has 2019 QB for Mac.  I have 2022 QB for Mac.  Client sent backup file which I restored on my computer but I am not able to open it with her Administrator Password.  Can someone please explain how the migrated password works.  If I select reset password it asks for License number, name, etc.  Would that be my license number or the clients?  If the client's, is this going to reset it on her copy as well.  Nothing is easy anymore since they implemented the QB account aspect for logging into files.

QB for Mac Admin Password-Restored Backup

Hello there, @lindam

Thanks for your time in posting your concern today. As an insight, you'll need to enter your administrator password to restore and access a client's company file.

In case your admin password doesn't work, you can reset your password for QuickBooks for Mac.

Be sure to have your QuickBooks license number ready to reset the administrator password.

  1. From the Password field, select the lock icon. You’ll see a pop-up menu listing recovery email addresses.
  2. Choose an email address you have access to, then select OK.
  3. You’ll get an email from QuickBooks that will guide you through creating a new admin password.

Once done, you can now log in to your company file using the new password set.

For more information about this process, check out this article to learn about how users and passwords work in QuickBooks for Mac.

I have tried my administrator password.  It doesn't work either.  I can reset it, but is that going to reset it for my QB for Mac file as well?  I don't understand how this works now.  Is the Administrator password for all files opened in QB Mac on one computer, or is it supposed to be per file.  Again, this file I am trying to open is a client's backup file from QB Mac 2019 that I am trying to open in 2022.

Just tried the password reset.  It does not appear to be looking for my licensing information.  It will not accept it.

Let me add some information in resetting a password for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, @lindam.

You can log into your Intuit account and double-check your information. I can show you how to go about doing it.

  1. Go to https://camps.intuit.com.
  2. Enter your Intuit login credentials.
  3. Take note of the following information:
    • Authorized user's name and email address (the name is not case sensitive)
    • Primary Mailing address (especially zip code)
    • License number (under Products and Services; doesn't need a dash)
    • Phone number (under Account Details)

You can use this information in the password reset tool.

You should also make sure that your QuickBooks software is up to date. It ensures that you have the most up-to-date features and fixes.

I'd recommend contacting our Technical Support Team if you're still having trouble resetting your admin password. They can look at your account and suggest ways to improve it.

It still makes no sense why I have to reset my password when I have the password, license number and everything and it works find on my own Quickbooks for Mac file but it will not work on this clients file restored from a 2019 version backup.  Why won't it work!  I shouldn't need to reset if it is working on my file!
