Join nowI have QB Pro 2018 on a Windows 10 Desktop. Following downloading update R15, after entering my password to open the company file, a window pops up asking to log into Intuit. Thus far I have bypassed this by selecting remind me in 7 days option. Assuming I enter the Intuit user name and password, will it ask me to do so every time I log into QuickBooks? Also any clue on what is Intuit's purpose in adding this unwelcome feature?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide?
Hello, Shilo35.
Yes, it will ask you to log in again after entering your credentials. This is a new security feature from R15 for QuickBooks Pro 2018. Admins would need to log in to their Intuit account after opening an existing file. Although, you can opt not to go through this by selecting the "remind" option.
We're doing this to continue strengthening our security and licensing processes. We're always working on making the software secure and add file protections.

Thank you for your response. That is what I suspected.
I guess I will have to go through the remind me in 7 days procedure once a week from now on, or at least until I can find an alternative product. I shouldn't be required to login in to the Intuit online system to use my desktop software. I will be very circumspect of any future updates from Intuit.
I agree wholeheartedly! We should not have to link our QB desktop product to an online account, unless we choose to do so. We should also have the option to "ignore" or "never remind me again". How long before they disable our desktop products for "failure to sign in" or start charging a monthly fee to have it linked to an online account or some other ridiculous thing that we have no control over? This is simply intrusive and irritating.
You say "Although, you can opt not to go through this by selecting the "remind" option." I have found no way to opt out. If there is one, please post information.
I chose the desktop version because over the years there have been online breeches to reputable companies, and I do not want any online access to my accounts. I am the administrator, but I do not want to log into an online account ever. If this is the future of Quickbooks, I am with the other users and will find an alternative software that respects the fact that when I buy a desktop software, I want just that and will not be pestered with this nuisance. There are many other ways to add a layer of security without going this route.
This has nothing at all to do with security. It has to do with licensing and data collecting. Identity theft has exploded since the advent of e-filing and the shift to everything in the cloud. Intuit should be ashamed of itself for making it difficult to use software that you paid for and resides on your computer.
