QuickBooks freezes when I try to open.

I tried to restore a backup from the church computer to my personal computer. When I try to open QuickBooks on my personal computer now, it NEVER opens. It just keeps thinking and spinning, and will not open to the login screen. Why? How can this be fixed?

QuickBooks freezes when I try to open.

Are you able to open other files normally? It is highly possible that the backup file is damaged. You should create another backup file. Anyway, how big is the QBB size?

QuickBooks freezes when I try to open.

Hi there, @Westside Baptist.

I want to make sure you're able to open your Quickbooks company file. If you haven't seen an error message or any warnings about the issue, don't worry here are several steps you can perform to fix it:

If you haven’t already, update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. Once done, check the file you're opening. Please take note it should have a .qbw extension at the end of the filename so you can open it.

If you're using the correct file extension, let's figure out if your company file or QuickBooks program itself is causing the issue. Here's how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type “File Explorer” into the search and open File Explorer.
  3. Search for and find the QuickBooks.exe file. It’s usually in your QuickBooks folder.
  4. Hold down CTRL on your keyboard and double-click QuickBooks.exe. Don’t let go of CTRL until QuickBooks opens.

After QuickBooks opens, open your company file. If you can't, try a second test. Open QuickBooks but don't open your company file. Instead, select Open a sample file.

If the sample file opens normally, your company file’s location may be causing the issue. Move it to your Windows desktop and open it from there. If it opens, there may be an issue with your network configuration. Use QuickBooks File Doctor to fix your network.

In case your company file is saved on a network, make sure everyone is logged out of it before you start. Then follow the steps to move your company file and the associated .TLG files to your local hard drive.

If you still can't open your company file, follow steps 6,7,8, and 9 in this article: What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know how else I can help you with QuickBooks by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to lend a helping hand. Keep safe.

QuickBooks freezes when I try to open.

Hello, Sam.

Let's work together and fix the freezing issue in QuickBooks.

This could likely be an installation or a file issue, which causes the freezing problem in QuickBooks.

The Tool Hub utility has options where we can fix both file and program problems. So, we'll want to run it to fix the freezing issues. Here's how to do it:

  1. Download the latest version of the Tool Hub utility here: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub
  2. Close any instances of QuickBooks (if there are any).
  3. Run and install the Tool Hub utility.
  4. After installing, run the program.
  5. On the list of options, select Company File Issues
  6. Follow the prompts to begin the repair.
  7. After running the Company File Issues option, run the Program Problems fix then follow the prompts.

Open QuickBooks Desktop, then log in to your file to check for any freezing issues.

Alternatively, we can also do a clean install to fix the freezing issues. Let's follow the steps here: Clean install QuickBooks Desktop

After fixing the issue, do you need to run reports to see your financials and get ready for the next set of entries? Check out this article for a guide on what reports you can use: Understand reports
