Quickbooks Mobile App - Why can't I categorize expense using a COGS category

When I'm using the app to enter expenses from US Postal Service, I want to categorize as "Shipping" which is a Cost of Goods Sold category. But the app won't let me do that.

Crumby workaround: I have to enter the expense with an "Uncategorized Expense" category in the app, then switch to web UI and change the category (web lets me do this).  (Extra clicks, waste of time)

Quickbooks Mobile App - Why can't I categorize expense using a COGS category

I appreciate the workaround you performed when trying to categorize a transaction in your QuickBooks Online App, @speedie_stevie

Beforehand, I’d agree with the steps you’ve provided as a workaround to categorize an expense as Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).

With regards to your QBO App, I’ve got here some troubleshooting actions for you to perform to categorize the transaction, so you’ll be able to get back to business in no time.

For an app to work seamlessly, ensure you keep QuickBooks Online on your mobile device updated to the latest version. This is to make sure everything works fine. I’d be glad to show you how:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your profile icon at the top of your screen.
  3. Scroll towards the QBO app, then tap Update.
  4. Click Update All.

From there, please check you can already categorize the transaction again. If the issue persists, we can try refreshing your QBO app to clear the cache and resolve any unusual performance while using it. Then, uninstall and reinstall the app to start with a clean slate.

Once you’re all set, you can check out these articles for guidance. These contain a step-by-step process on how to review and categorize your transactions to put them in the correct accounts flawlessly:
