Bank was bought out by another bank

Does anyone else have Bank of the West which has now changed to BMO?  I need to update my login info to download bank account activity.  When I go to do that on my business checking account it will only let me change the login in name and password, not the website.  I'm wondering if I have to start a whole new bank account in quickbooks online to reflect the change to BMO? My actual login in and account number have remained the same just the website has changed.

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the recent transition of Bank of the West to BMO and the need to update your login information in QuickBooks Online, @JENN_L.

I understand how important it is to have your banking information accurately reflected in your accounting software, and I'm here to assist you with this transition.

If your bank merges or changes with another bank, you'll have to change the way you access your accounts online. Make sure to categorize your transactions if you have pending transactions in the Uncategorized tab before you disconnect your account in QBO.

In addition, If you receive error codes regarding connecting to your bank accounts, you may take the following steps in this article to resolve this matter: Fix online banking errors after a bank merger.

Can you please detail the same process for users of Mac desktop 2022? I still have the same account history and account number, so I am reluctant to create a new bank account option that appears when I downloaded transactions from BMO instead of BOW. Essentially, the only thing that's changed is the website QB needs to connect to for downloading transactions.

Can you please list the same steps for a desktop Mac 2022 user? I'm reluctant to add a new bank since it's really the same account and account number, the only thing that's changed is the website where I download transactions.

I appreciate you using QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to manage your business, @sonicnef. I've come to help you set up your new bank.

Connecting your bank depends on what services it offers. From there, you can download transactions and use online banking services within QuickBooks. Thus, I'll guide you on setting up both ways.

Before doing so, please ensure to prepare the following requirements:

  • QuickBooks is connected to the Internet.
  • The bank provides online banking services to QuickBooks.
  • You have an online banking account set up with your bank.
  • Have your customer ID and password or PIN ready for Direct Connect. You can get your credentials from your bank.

Here's how to set up Web Connect:

  1. Go to Banking, then select Online Banking Setup.
  2. Enter your bank's name, then select Next.
  3. If your bank offers both services, select Web Connect.
  4. Choose which bank accounts you wish to add to QuickBooks and click Website.
  5. Download and save your bank transactions to your computer.
  6. In QuickBooks, select Downloaded Transactions, then Import File to import your transactions.
  7. If you downloaded many accounts, select a matching QuickBooks account in Store in the QuickBooks Account, then Continue.
  8. Once QuickBooks has finished importing your transactions, select OK. This displays your transactions in the Downloaded Transactions window.

Another way around is to connect using Direct Connect. You can see the step-by-step process by checking out this article: Set up online banking for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Once settled and ready to organize your transactions, here's a handy guide you can refer to for more details: Add and match transactions in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Bank was bought out by another bank

The account association window requires that I select "Store in the QB Account", but I don't want to create a new account since this is the SAME account number and transaction I already had with Bank of the West before they were acquired by BMO.  How can I see my existing checking account as an option to store transactions in?

Bank was bought out by another bank

Hi there, @sonicnef. I'll share additional details to help you fix the connection of your bank account in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

I appreciate you sharing an update about the steps you've performed. To fix this, you can disconnect your Bank of West account and reconnect it using the correct name (BMO). But, if the new bank is still not showing in your QBDT account, I recommend reaching out to your bank to further help you in setting up your new financial institution's information.

Once everything is fine, here are the steps you can follow to disconnect the old bank:

  1. Navigate to the Lists menu and then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Next, highlight the account and select the Pencil to edit.
  3. Then, select Online Settings.
  4. Click Download Transactions then choose Not enabled.
  5. Select OK to confirm, then click OK again.

For reference, check out this article: Disconnect Bank Feeds for an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

After that, you're now ready for the new bank and set up online banking in your QBDT account. To proceed, refer to this page: Set up online banking for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Additionally, the program allows you to update your Financial Institutions Directory (FiDir) to ensure you have the latest details from your financial institution. To learn more, feel free to read this link: Update the Financial Institutions Directory in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have any other issue regarding fixing your bank's connection or any QuickBooks issue, please drop a comment below. I'm just around here ready to provide a prompt response to help resolve your issue.
