Can I create forecasting reports in QuickBooks Online (you can on desktop), and if not, why not? Thanks.

Welcome to the Community, NGCOACEO.

Right now, the closest report available that you can run in QuickBooks Online is the Statement of Cash Flows report. It'll show you the amount of cash flowing in and out within a specific period.

Here's how:

  1. Select Reports from the left menu.
  2. In the search field, enter Statement of Cash Flows
  3. Select Statement of Cash Flows
  4. Select Customize to change any of the settings for the report, if necessary.
  5. Select Run report

If you need to combine multiple reports, you can try exporting and merging them into Excel manually.

Another alternative you can try is to check for any third-party application that offers cash flow forecast. You can visit our app center through this link:

QBO and the Desktop version have unique features that allows users to choose which one is better for your business needs. I'll be personally taking note of your request and forward them to our product engineers.

You can also stay tuned to our QuickBooks Blog to see what’s in store and product improvements.

Thank you for the speedy reply!

Not sure a cash flows report works like a forecasting report, especially in an accrual environment.

I would hope that as many features as possible would be available in both desktop and online versions.  I’m sure there are engineering reasons why some might work in one environment and not the other, but entering forecasting information seems like a basic piece of functionality.  Pretty disappointed it’s not available in QBO - but thanks for passing along the message internally.  I will check out the apps.

Thanks again.
