Can I track clergy housing allowance (cash) to a separate account? Our pastor receives a monthly salary plus housing allowance and I would like them separated in reports

Currently, I have to export to Excel and manually input the salary and housing allowance separately.

Hello there, Asecfinance. I will demonstrate how to track your clergy housing allowance in a separate account using QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Once you set up your clergy housing allowance on your employee pay type, navigate to the Payroll settings to properly track this to a separate account.

Here's how:

1. From the upper left corner, click the Gear icon.1.png2. Next, tap the Payroll Settings and scroll down to the Accounting section.

2.png3. Press the Wages Pencil icon from the Accounting Preferences, then, choose the button Each employee's wages are posted to different types of accounts (ex: salary, contractor, and so on).

3.png4. Once done, locate the Clergy Housing Allowances dropdown.

5. This time, you need to set up an account by choosing or adding a new Expense account by clicking the +Add New.

4.png6. Give a name on the other boxes to complete the process then, Save.

Once done, you can run the Payroll Summary by an employee to get a better view of your salary and housing allowances separately.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Reports menu.
  2. Find the Payroll section, then Payroll Summary by Employee.
  3. Set a date range from the drop-down.
  4. Choose how you’d like your columns from the upper left side of the screen.
  5. Customize the report.
  6. Lastly, hit Run Report.

This setup reduces the need to export to Excel and allows you to generate clearer reports directly within the QuickBooks Online Payroll report.

Additionally, payroll tax liability adjustment is a modification made to the amount of payroll taxes owed by a business. It can involve correcting errors, adjusting for credits or discounts, or addressing penalties or fines related to payroll tax calculations.
