Can someone help me with my sales tax liability report does not match my gross sales per month. is anyone else having this problem?

Hi there, pbranch,

I'm here to help match the sales tax liability and gross sales report.

If you've already set up the date by month, make sure the accounting method used is correct in each report. Balances in your reports will show up differently once the method is not the same.

You'll want to change the method on a report to and compare the results. Let me show you how to do it:

  1. Go to Reports from the left navigation bar.
  2. Open each report mentioned above.
  3. Select Cash or Accrual under Accounting method.
  4. Hit Run report.

I'm always here to help if you have any other concerns or questions. Just mention my name in the comment section, and I'll get back to you.

Hi, thank you for your response.  I have actually run these reports by accrual and cash basis and neither report balances.

could we possibly be entering our sales tax incorrectly on some customers?

thanks,

Good morning, @pbranch

I hope you're enjoying this beautiful day.

Our Sales Tax Liability Report won't always match the gross sales. Allow me to explain.

They won't match because there're transactions that can appear in the data that will make it unlikely for the Sales Tax Liability and gross sales to match. You can compare the two reports to see which transactions are causing the discrepancies.  Also, you'll want to ensure that the dates are matching on the reports. I recommend having your accountant take a look over these reports to help find the discrepancies. You can also contact our technical support team as they have the tools that would allow them to remote into your computer and see if you have your sales tax is set up correctly. Below I've included the steps on how you can contact support.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?) at the top right.
  3. Click Contact Us to connect with a live support agent.

We also have a resource center here in the Community that offers to find local accountants in your area that you can check into. On our home page, scroll down to the Resources section under Find an expert and click Find your match.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you need more help. You can always reach out to the Community anytime you have questions or concerns. Take care and have a great rest of your week!
