Can’t access QB Guide to Converting Quickbooks Desktop to QBO - ACCESS DENIED

This is intensely frustrating - I’m getting an error message when I try to export from QB Premier Mac to QBO, Can’t export data; Error while fetching migration data from JSON file. And - when I try to access the QB Guide to Converting Quickbooks Desktop to QBO - ACCESS DENIED. What’s going on? Help!! It tells me to sign in, and it sends me back to where I started. I get stuck in an endless loop.

Can’t access QB Guide to Converting Quickbooks Desktop to QBO - ACCESS DENIED

Hello, mcfoshay.

Thanks for stopping by the QuickBooks Community. I'll help you get going in the right direction so your data from your Desktop account is uploaded to your Online account in no time. First-things-first, you need to make sure your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac is up-to-date to the latest release. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. From the QuickBooks menu, select Check for QuickBooks Updates
  2. Select Install Updates
  3. Restart QuickBooks

If that doesn't work, in some cases this can be caused by data corruption. Resolve this by running the Rebuild and Verify utilities. Below is a link to that process.

- Resolving Potential Data Issues

If you're still experiencing issues, I suggest reaching out to our Support team, they will be able to dive into your specific account details that we don't have access to here in the Community. Follow these steps to do so.

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Continue.
  4. We’ll provide you a few support options. Select which one is best for you.

Once your issue is resolved and you're up and running, check out the following link, it highlights the steps you need to take after you've converted from QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to QuickBooks Online.

- Steps you need to take once you've converted to QBO from QBDT for Mac.

If you have any other questions moving forward, feel free to post down below.

Thanks for your time and have a nice afternoon.

@mcfoshay

Which QB Mac version (year) do you have? Try open your data file on the trial license of QB Mac 2019 or 2020 to migrate to QBO.

Can’t access QB Guide to Converting Quickbooks Desktop to QBO - ACCESS DENIED

Thanks for your reply, @Fiat Lux - ASIA. I'm running QB Mac 2019, so I don't think that's the issue. Maybe the browser? My default is Safari. Maybe if I tried Firefox or Chrome? It's odd that there are two different contacts I've tried that bring up ACCESS DENIED, but I don't remember the other one offhand. And this is when I'm logged in as administrator!

Allow me to help move your data to QuickBooks Online, mcfoshay,

You can change the default browser. Use this link: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, and QuickBooks Self-Employed to know what computer and browser you need to have a smooth export.

Also, you'll want to consider these things show below before starting to convert your file:

  • You must be logged in as the Administrator in both your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file and your QuickBooks Online account.
  • You can only convert your data within the first 60 days of your QuickBooks Online company start date.
  • When you convert, your Desktop file will replace your Online file and overwrite any existing information.
  • Don't convert your file if you've already turned on Payroll in QuickBooks Online.
  • Your QuickBooks file must be under 350,000 targets (file size doesn't matter).
  • If you're over the 350,000 target limit, you'll only be given the option to import your lists and/or balances.
  • Inventory can only be imported from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
  • If you want to import your inventory, save your company file as a QuickBooks Desktop for Windows file, open it on a Windows computer, then import using the latest version of QuickBooks for Windows.
  • There is some information that may not be imported when you move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
  • If you receive any errors while importing, you can fix errors when converting to QuickBooks Online.

To import your data:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.
  2. Select File, then choose Export to QuickBooks Online
  3. Now, sign in to your existing QuickBooks Online account using your user ID and password. Creating a new account isn't recommended during import.)
  4. Click OK, got it. QuickBooks imports your data.

After you've connected to QuickBooks Online to import your data

  • You’ll receive an email confirmation once the import is done.
  • Confirmation can take up to 24 hours.

You can also do screen-sharing with a support representative to help move your data. They can perform this in a secure environment. To do so, you can chat them through this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact. Click Search for something else, enter a brief discussion in the Tell us more about your question field, then click Search. Scroll down, you'll see Start a Message.
