Join nowHello there, mallison1. I understand you need to modify the deposit detail report to appear one line per transaction within QuickBooks Online. Let me explain this further to you.
On the said report, removing the second line isn't supported in QBO, since the first line represents the debit entry, showing where the amount is going, while, the second line represents the corresponding credit entry, indicating the source of the funds.
This dual-entry format is a fundamental principle of accounting, ensuring that every transaction has an equal debit and credit amount to maintain the balance of accounts.
You'll want to understand the scenario, you can run a Transaction Journal report to see the detail view. Open the deposit transaction and navigate to the More option, then click the Transaction Journal. See the sample illustration below:
As a workaround, Export the report to Excel. Exporting allows you to customize the data in ways that you're unable to do in the report itself, such as sorting specific fields, reordering fields, deleting fields, and so on. For detailed instructions, check out this article: Export your reports to Excel from QuickBooks Online.
I want to make sure all of your concerns are addressed. I'm only a post away if you need me. Happy Weekend!
Thank you for your explanation. I understand the journal entries but on the deposit detail report it then adds the two lines giving you an inaccurate total. I would think I should be able to get a deposit detail report similar to the one in QB desktop without having to export to excel and then deleting all the extra lines plus having to adjust the total for each different bank account. I work in law firm so because of the way we do retainers this can add up to a lot of correcting. Thanks for your help
