Most of us have our own security and backup. It should be an opt-in. I want to opt-out!
You don't seem to understand that we don't want your forced logins. This does not make us feel more secure, but rather less secure. You are alienating numerous customers this way. Just read the comments. For every comment here, there are numerous more customers who are upset about this. That is a fact. PLEASE change your policy on this. We are not impressed.

We've had a client reach out to us with this issue this morning, and I believe we have a temporary workaround. When prompted with the Intuit Account signin window you should be able to right-click the blue title bar of this window and select close. You will receive a warning about this, and then at that point you will click cancel to confirm. This should allow you to continue working with Quickbooks without setting up an account.
Hope that helps someone. If you find a faster/better way to close out of it, or prevent it altogether please do post your thoughts.

I'd also like to add to this thread how unacceptable and intrusive this is. This post is slowly climbing it's way to the top of Google's search regarding this issue. There is absolutely no reason to force cloud based logins for premise based software. The fact that this continues to be ignored and falls on deaf ears is proof just how much Intuit is forcing unnecessary changes, which can only mean there is a covert level of operation going on here. Such as a datamine or a push to force on-premise people to pay for the online solution.
Not allowing an Administrator to edit their users to their company files without requiring an online Intuit login is a reduction in security, not an improvement.
Our business admin also thinks it's outrageous that we are forced to sign in to Intuit in order to run our business. We often have power internet outages, but I am able to use my laptop to continue working during these outages, even without the internet. When we are forced to sign into Intuit, it means I can't do my job! It's unbelievable how they are forcing us to go online. PLEASE DISABLE THE FORCED INTUIT LOGIN!
** FOR FRUSTRATED QUICKBOOKS DESKTOP USERS: There is a way to close out of it without having to sign in. When the login prompt opens, right clock on the top bar of the window and click "cancel." This will close the window. Even thought this is a way to bypass the login, it still shouldn't pop up; it's wasting our time having to do this every time we open QB.
PLEASE DISABLE THE FORCED LOG IN ASAP. If I wanted my data to be accessible over the internet or stored in a cloud, I would have set it up that way. I don't always have reliable internet connection and still want to be able to work. To call this a "security measure" is a joke. It is a blatant attempt by Intuit to data mine and a F**k You to customers who have purchased the software so they can work offline. Shopping for other software now.
Can't agree more. FURIOUS! We certainly should invoice Intuit for our wasted time. How about credit against our bill??? This isn't about security. Moreover, it is unclear what accounts are what and what log in is necessary. We run several company files and this jumped out at us while trying to set up another machine since we had a desktop failure. What a painful mess. Not like some of us aren't barely holding on during the pandemic shutdown.
Can someone at Quickbooks/Intuit monitoring or moderating this board direct us to who is in charge of that decision? Name, position and PHONE NUMBER please. I think a frank discussion is in order with the decisionmaker. Don't most of us wish we could hide behind a web interface and passive aggressively screw over customers. I know I wouldn't last long. Absolutely pathetic!!!
I was going to post the exact same thing!!! This is typical of the arrogance of SillyCon Valley and tech today. Hopefully decentralized solutions will eliminate the need for Intuit, Google (YouTube), FaceBook, Twitter, etc. Looking forward to the day.
I am officially done with Intuit products... never again. This year I was unable to open TurboTax on my Mac running Big Sur and got zero help in fixing problem from Intuit so I was forced to purchase H&R Block which works perfectly. Where I use QB desktop I don't have internet access, that is why I got the desktop version, so having the Intuit popup that blocks me from using desktop version offline makes this product useless too. I had no problems with 2016 but upgrading to current version was a complete waste of money. I am going to switch to different software. You people are terrible when it comes to customer service!!! I will never purchase any Intuit products ever again.
Very unhappy with the forced Intuit login as well. We are in a multi-user, multi-company, environment and it is ridiculous to have multiple logins for one company. As an accountant who often sets up QB companies, I can no longer set myself up as a user if I am already an Admin. VERY UNHAPPY. Come on, INTUIT. We are marketed to enough.
I am seriously annoyed to the point that if you can not turn this feature off, I am going to look at other account software such us Intact-Sage, Patriot, or Drake. I use QB for the simplicity of it. I have 5 different clients and I am not going to spend half my time entering in my log in.
There is no value here for me or my clients. You state, "better control and protection of data" --- wrong my admin password is sufficient. In all the years I have been in the business, I have never once had an issue. Furthermore, should the internet go out, I am locked out.
You also state "one account for all Intuit products" . No, if I want other products I will contact Intuit. I do not need you to contact me.

This forced login is a massive security risk for users. We run our own QB Enterprise server that is protected internally. By forcing an internet login to access company data it completely defeats the purpose of our own security protocols. As a network administrator I can not agree that this change is in the best interest of the customer. This appears to be a forced change from Intuit to encourage migration to cloud-based services that many customers are simply uncomfortable with. Who is the bigger target, a small unknown accounting company, or Intuit a global accounting software provider? Cloud providers have security breaches regularly. This is ridiculous.

If Intuit really cared about its customers they would give us the choice to add the "security" or continue working offline as we always have been.
This is the last straw for me. I will be searching for another software package to handle my accounting needs.
This workaround doesn't seem to work for me. I tried to access the Users area to setup a user account for my accountant but it won't let me get by this.
I think I might try reinstalling QuickBooks with the original install file and then disable QuickBooks updates to see if that works. Does anyone know when this new feature was introduced into the product? If I figure it out I'll post it here.
I'm also very very displease at this feature. This is a push to the cloud, plain and simple. The desktop version should remain just that Desktop only with the option to integrate. Multifactor Authentication is not needed on a desktop app and that seems to be the only non-cloudy reason to have Intuit push this so it doesn't really make sense why they would force this on us. Maybe it's to let the government into our accounting files!! Conspiracy! lol :-)
Please put in a feature request for an option to disable this cloud integration. I have many clients that would like this removed from their QuickBooks authentication. Many would like to have the Desktop version be offline except for licensing which is acceptable.
It looks like this started around R8 or R9. The big downer that I didn't think of is that one would have to restore from a backup before R8/R9 and enter all the transactions again to get around this. That might be more trouble than it's worth for company with a lot of transactions.

Sorry this isn't a "fix" for the problem, but this morning when I chose NOT to login, I was not able to open my file at all! Couldn't even close the program! Had to reboot my computer to start over, at which time it did not ask me to login again. When you talk to "customer support" they all push for the online version and are not happy when you tell them you do not want the online version! Also, I have TWO sql anywhere files running in task manager under Quickbooks part of the time - makes me wonder WHERE my data is going and if it is safe! I also am looking for a different software! Very frustrating to say the least!

I want to believe that you may have reached out to the QuickBooks Online Support Team instead of QuickBooks Desktop Support Team. There is no X to close out of the pop up window that keeps coming up in 2021 QB version. The only option is to proceed or in my case be stubborn and use file manager to force the close of the QuickBooks then restart the program. The pop up comes up about every three logins. QB has already made a mess of my account and somehow has multiple versions of my company in their system and clients on my account that I haven't worked with in a long time; requests that they fix these issues has fallen on deaf ears. There's no way I'm going to use this feature when I log into client books that I have on my desktop! QB can stay out of it. It's my responsibility to make sure only authorized people have access to the QB files in my care. Enough big brother BS!
While you undoubtedly meant well, those of us that have been around a while know that QB Customer service has become a joke and the product has become increasingly invasive and resource intensive. None of the Intuit Kool-Aid is going to change the fact that for several years Intuit has been trying to push everyone to the online forum because they make a lot more money that way. Especially since you have to pay a significant monthly subscription to get a version that works reasonably well. Intuit can spout how it wants to integrate things for efficiency etc. and that's great if that's what the customer wants; forcing nonsensical login on desktop based QB files is not what we want as evidenced by the many comments. It's not right to give the customer no say in such things.

Just happened. I could not get rid of the pop-up. Nor could I hide it or proceed to another task until I logged in. Just another tracking, data grab scam...
As a side note: Online QuickBooks is terrible.
i saw this coming, and i am ready to start a class action suit. i think i started my QuickBooks back in 2003 and i own the program than when was not paying attention i paying for it too often i only use it to bill out my customer and keep track of my inventory cost, so i am only using about 10% of this program, guess it time to jump ship they got too greedy which is what killing the USA greed
