Does QuickBooks Online support Single Sign-On (SSO) with Office 365 or Azure Active Directory?

We have been using QB Enterprise Desktop for quite a while and are now considering QB Online, along with several other licenses for multiple companies. Unfortunately, without Azure SSO / SAML 2.0 integration I doubt we will continue using this accounting platform.

Does QuickBooks Online support Single Sign-On (SSO) with Office 365 or Azure Active Directory?

Just created an account to say... This post has been active for 3+ years now and QB is still yet to shed any light on when we can expect an implementation.

This is extremely poor considering any modern software or service pushed out in this day and age is utilising AD / SSO with ease.

Pick up your game QB or you will begin to see users find another platform that is capable.

Just here to say our company is looking to transition from desktop to QBO with azure SSO.

QBO Support was not much help and seemed aggravated at the question. There should be someone in Intuit that can provide some guidance.

I find it hard to believe that this is still not implemented. The other questions in QuickBooks Community I have found referencing this are clearly asking for a SSO implementation to log into QuickBooks Online. Yet responses from Intuit are directing people to the Intuit developers page for creating their own custom app using Intuit for SSO.

Please Intuit, there must be someone working in identity that understands SAML that could respond to this request. We just want to be able to leverage our own IdP via SAML to log into Quickbooks Online. Kind of how you can currently "Sign in with Google", except using an IdP that is not Google (Azure, Okta, generic SAML, etc).

I'm in agreement with all others on this thread - QBO should definitely add the ability to integrate with other identity providers (Google, AzureAD, or any SAML provider). Sure it is great that Inuit has an Oauth 2 system for integrations, that makes sense for sure, but the support people in this thread and elsewhere in the developer pages aren't getting that we IT administrators are also looking for a way for our QBO end users (our accountants, etc) to sign into to QBO using the identity provider that our company uses for literally everything else.

Your voices and ideas matter to us, shaun-hb.

Integrating third-party identity providers into QuickBooks Online is indeed a great feature. I can see how this functionality would be beneficial when accessing your books. With this, I encourage sending feedback directly to our Product Development team. Doing so helps us improve the features of the program. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear menu and then select Feedback.
  2. Type in your feature request in the description box.
  3. Once done, click on Next.

You can get back on this thread to stay informed if there are any updates regarding the availability of the option. If you have any other questions about the program's features, please don't hesitate to keep us posted.

Honestly these canned responses do not help. The ticket has been open long enough. If it was a priority it would have been implemented. The technical requirements are not too difficult to fathom. Now the business impact to Intuit due to lost customers is one which one would have thought would be motivation enough. Thankfully there are other providers of professional web-based accounting software.

Are you suggesting that we should use QuickBooks Online to provide feedback on a product many of us want to switch to, but are holding off due to the absence of the Single Sign-On (SSO) feature? We currently use QB Desktop Enterprise and are waiting for the implementation of SSO before considering QuickBooks Online. Disappointed shaking my head (SMH)...

Since QuickBooks Online can authenticate users via OpenID Connect, it can absolutely be set up to work with most modern IdPs, including Azure.

Apparently, the support rep that replied (as well as the ones who suggested you request the feature, lol) didn't understand your question. Quite often, you'll note that rather than ask clarifying questions or check with a colleague, the reps simply answer "no" to questions they don't understand. This is unfortunate as it undermines their credibility.

JonahMc,

I do not see anywhere an option to configure OpenID (or any other IdP). Can you share exactly where to find this?

We have confirmed this is not true with QBO Support.

The only support for OpenID connect is for authorization for developer apps. An end user can only access QBO companies with an Intuit account.

Imagine developing an application as big as QBO and not having SSO for M365/Azure in 2024 LOL.

To be clear, there is not any current support for any external identity providers of any kind. Users must logon with Intuit IDs and cannot leverage SAML, OIDC, or OAuth 2.0 authentication. This includes no support for SCIM or JIT provisioning.

Yes! First —if you haven't already— sign up for a free Intuit Developer account. Next, follow the steps outlined on the Implement Intuit Single Sign-on page and you'll be good to go.

To be clear, any system that supports OpenID Connect implicitly supports SSO.

"Sign in with Intuit" SSO buttons are included in Intuit's branding guidelines and use of the feature is widespread, especially among apps that target existing QuickBooks Online customers. See Bill.com's sign-in page for one of many examples.

With all due respect to QuickBooks Online Support, questions like this are outside their domain of expertise.

You can check out the Implement Intuit Single Sign-on page for info on how to set up SSO with QuickBooks Online.

Hi JohahMc, I'm wondering if you misunderstand what the people in this thread are asking for. We all know that SSO is possible with Quickbooks Online, but the type of SSO Intuit supports is allowing you to login to any approved app (like bill.com) using your Intuit credentials... but people here aren't asking for that, they are asking if we can have our users sign into Quickbooks Online itself using our own Office 365/Azure Active Directory/Google Workspace credentials via Oath or SAML. It is very common for company IT departments to have a policy to only approve apps where their corporate credentials are used for SSO. This use case doesn't seem to be handled by QBO, which is disappointing.

I don’t misunderstand what people here are asking; can you tell me a bit more about why you wonder that? The “type” of SSO that authenticates users in Bill.com via their Intuit credentials can also be used to authenticate users in QuickBooks Online via those credentials. If implemented in an IdP like AD Azure or Okta, users can access QuickBooks Online through an SSO dashboard instead of signing in with their credentials.

Not with Azure. Please point me to the instructions that tell me how to do app registration or enterprise app in azure to have SSO into QBO with my azure credentials. If you can show me that, I’ll mark this as resolved.
