How do I remove the primary user

Good morning and thank you for joining me here in the Community, strongarmscenery. I will be happy to assist! To transfer or change the primary admin role, you must be able to sign in as the administrator first. From there, use the steps below to complete the process:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Manage User.
  2. Locate the user you want to make the primary admin.
  3. From the Role column, be sure that they're listed as admin. If they’re not, select Edit to change their role to admin.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow in the Action section.
  5. A verification code will be sent to your account's phone number or email on file. Enter them once received, then select Continue.
  6. Then select Make primary admin again to confirm changes.
     

 

After that, a user will receive an invitation link to be accepted as the primary admin. However, if the existing primary admin has left the firm, you can request to be the primary admin by following the hyperlink.

Primary Admin has to transfer the role to one Company Admin. Otherwise, you will need a workaround to claim your data.

I'm hopping into this thread to assist you with transferring the primary admin role in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @ArtSpaceNH.

 

There are various ways to transfer the primary admin role to another user. First, you can ask the current primary admin to transfer this to you or the intended user. However, if you no longer have contact with them, we can request to be the primary admin or contact.

 

You can submit a request to our account protection team if the current primary admin is unable to make the adjustment themselves. Before anything else, please gather the documents needed for the request. It is to verify your identity and protect your account data. 

 

After that, you'll need to complete the form by going to your email to view this. Otherwise, you can log into your Intuit Account if you don't see a form at the bottom of step three.

I had an error when I went to accept the primary role, it only said that an error occurred, it didn't say what it was. Now it's saying it timed out. How do I fix this?

Let's start by refreshing the page by pressing the F5 key or using your browser's refresh button. Sometimes, errors can occur due to temporary glitches. Cached data can also interfere with the proper functioning of web applications. These files are stored to help websites load faster when you revisit them. Clearing them will do the trick.

 

Beforehand, let's access your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:
 

  • Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Firefox: Ctrl Shift + P
  • Safari: Command Shift N

 

If it works, you may have accumulated too much historical data in your browser. I'd recommend clearing its cache so you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported browser to see if the issue persists.
