How do you create or find a report that shows sales by the month and a report that shows sales by year (last 5 years)

To view your total sales or income, access the Profit and Loss Report and select the desired month by specifying the beginning and ending dates. For a comprehensive overview of the past five years, choose the respective beginning and ending dates and set the display columns to Years. This lets you quickly analyze and track your financial performance over time.

It's nice to see you here in the Community forum, @Chad. Running sales reports by month and year gives you an overview of all the income you've made in your QuickBooks account. I'll be glad to share with you the process of how to access the reports in QBO.

I agree with Dantelayton's suggestion. You can access the Profit and Loss report, which provides a comprehensive summary of your business's total income and expenses. Within the report, you can apply date filters to specify the month and year in the report period for a more customized view.

On the other hand, you can also pull up the Sales by Customer Detail Report and Sales by Customer Summary Report. A Summary Report provides an overview and Net Sales regarding the products and customers. Whereas a detailed report will display the transaction details also associated with an item or customer.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. In the left-hand navigation menu, click on Reports.
  3. On the Reports page, you can use the search bar to find the Sales by Customer Summary.
  4. Click on Sales by Customer Summary to open the report customization options.
  5. Customize the report as follows:
  6. Date Range: Choose the desired date range for the report. To see sales by both month and year, select a date range that covers the period you want to analyze.
  7. Columns: Select the columns you want to include in the report. For sales by month and year, you can choose at least Month and Year.
  8. Rows/Group By: By default, this report groups data by Customer. However, you can change the grouping to Month and Year to get the sales breakdown by both criteria.
  9. Filter: Apply any additional filters if needed.
  10. Select Run report.
