Join nowI am a single owner with no employees. My credit card from my bank is set up with a parent account and sub account and all of my credit card transactions are appearing twice in my expenses in quickbooks. When I try to edit the accounts and link them in the chart of accounts, I am getting the following error message.
Something is not quite right
You cant change the parent of this account because it or its parent is already set up for Online Banking or Web Connect.
Has anyone seen this error and know how to fix it? I have tried manually deleting the duplicate transactions but they still keep coming back in. Please help!
I'm here to make sure there are no duplicate transactions in your bank account, @cottagegirl.
Before connecting to Online Banking, you need to know how your bank sends the downloaded transactions. If the entries download to one account, connect only the parent account. However, if the transactions download to the individual accounts, then you only have to link the subaccounts.
Two connected accounts cannot be linked as parent and subaccount. You can disconnect the parent and leave the sub-account connected to avoid double entry.
You can visit this reference here about bank or credit card subaccount set up for more information. It includes a step-by-step guide on how to reconcile them.
I’ve also added this article to learn more about the Chart of Accounts. It contains details to help them be more organized and accurate.
Feel free to add a comment if you have any other questions aside from this account. I’m always here to help. Take care always!
Hi Madelyn! Thank you for your reply. I was looking for other info on this topic and saw the instructions to disconnect the account while I was waiting for a reply. I removed the sub account rather than the parent. Is that ok? And also-do you know how I remove the duplicate transactions so that my expenses are not overinflated? I am trying clean this up for last year (2020) in preparation for my tax filing as well as current transactions that have come in this year. Thanks!!
Hello, @cottagegirl.
Thank you for posting in the Community. I'd love to help you with your concern about duplicate transactions.
You can remove the duplicate transactions on the Chart of Accounts.
Here's how:
You can repeat the steps for any transactions you wish to remove.
Also, you can remove duplicate transactions or personal expenses from bank feeds in QuickBooks
Please let me know if I can be of any additional help. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the week!
