Yes. There's a way, Kelle. We'll share details to help you accomplish this feat and automatically add the decimal when entering an amount inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Inside the program, there are different numbering format which contains a comma or a point depending on your preference. We'll write down the steps below to get you going and utilize the option to automatically insert a decimal when entering an amount:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top-right corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Select Account and settings.
  4. Go to the Advanced tab, and then scroll down to the Other preference section.
  5. In the Number format, select  $ 123,456.00.
  6. Click the Save button and then select Done.

In addition, we got these articles to help you keep track of the transactions and other side of your business inside the program:

We look forward to having you here in the Community space if you need assistance managing your company settings or have other concerns related to the program. Keep safe, and have a good one.

@Kurt_M  RE: In the Number format, select your preferred format.

The OP didn't ask about a preferred number format.  Did you even read the question?

I agree!!

The question is:  how to enter numbers WITHOUT having to enter the decimal point. That means..... I type 12345 and I get $123.45.

Is there anyone that can help those of us who have this question?

Good day to you. Currently, QuickBooks Online (QBO) can't automatically detect a decimal point when entering an amount. You'll need to enter them manually to reflect the correct sum.

In the meantime, you can submit direct feedback to our Product Development Team. Once received, they can evaluate your feature suggestion. If they see that it can improve the user's experience in QBO, they can add this to our future product updates.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback below the Profile tab.
  3. Type in your suggestions. Then, click Next to submit it.

You might want to personalize your account so that it works the way you want it to. Check out this article: Edit company settings in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to return here if you have additional questions or suggestions about the amount format displayed in QBO. We'll be willing to help. Take care always.

Wow! How lame is that?! QuickBooks Desktop has had the option for at least 30 years.

But then that's about how far behind QuickBooks Online is. So it fits.
