All the questions I see are from years ago. And with updates, does 'merge accounts' work with today's release?
I have tried several times, after watching videos and reading this forum, but I still get "Another account is using this name".
Using the same roll up target as the parent, using the same name as the parent, deleted the account # of the sibling.
Nothing is working.

I appreciate your efforts in taking steps to resolve this issue, Dan2601.
I'll provide an alternative solution to help you fix the merging of account issue.
Consider switching from Accountant to the Business view, merge the account, and then switch back to the Accountant view. I'm attaching a screenshot for your visual reference:
Please also ensure that the accounts you want to merge do not have any sub-accounts.

Thank you GlinetteC
WOW!
You have no idea as to how many hours I wrestled with this. Including an hour with QBO help desk chat.
Moving to Business View made the process seamless and simple - unlike Accounting View. This is the way it should work. Also, the Business View actually had the accounts listed in a P&L format which made the 'sum to' account easy to find.- again, unlike the Accounting View.
Please pass these instructions on to QBO help desk chat - it will make their job so much easier!
Again, GlinetteC, thank you, thank you, thank you.
On behalf of GlinetteC, you're very much welcome, Dan2601.

Ok guys,
Did QBO change the chart of account edit in business view? In two weeks, merging accounts, in business view, has gone from fantastic to useless (accountant view never worked for me). The "detail type" has gone from 'all that are needed' to only six. This is true for ALL of my accounts. Thus you cannot merge an account. I did upgrade my QBO for the budget feature, but surely that would not change the chart of accounts. Also, when I discovered the issue i deleted my cache and rebooted (didn't help).
Hello there, Dan2601. I'll chime in and share some insights with you.
In QuickBooks Online, there are two ways to display your account, the business view and the accountant view. Each of them has its own set of features to help you manage your business in your preferred setting.
In your chart of accounts, if you're using the Business view, you'll notice that the Detail type is displayed instead of the Tax form section.
See the screenshots below.
For your reference, you can read this article to learn more about the different views in QuickBooks Online: Switch between Business and Accountant view in QuickBooks Online.
Keep your post coming if you need more help with the difference between both views. Have a great day!
Hi Dan, Did you ever find out what happened? I have been struggling with the merging issue for HOURS/DAYS and nothing I do helps. Please tell me they didn't get rid of this feature to make more work for us.
