Migrating Quickbooks Desktop Pro to Online when Desktop Subscription Expired

Hello - I've been meaning to migrate from Desktop Pro Plus 2022 to Online prior to the Desktop subscription expiring, but between traveling and sick kids it appears my Desktop Subscription has expired. I subscribed to QB Online today thinking I could migrate with the company file (similar to moving company files from old desktop versions to current), but in reading the FAQ it informs me to login to desktop and there is a migration in QB itself.

I currently cannot log into QB at all - when I go to open one of my companies it brings up a prompt of "QuickBooks Subscription has lapsed" and asks for updated billing. Is there a way to migrate my desktop file into online if I can't login to desktop? The desktop renewal is >$500, and I do not need as I have subscribed to online at this point...

Thank you

Migrating Quickbooks Desktop Pro to Online when Desktop Subscription Expired

Thanks for posting here in the Community, pretzelwagon.

If your subscription-based QuickBooks Desktop expires, you'll no longer be able to use or access your account. Your company file will remain on the computer, but you will need to reactivate your subscription to view or open the data.

As a workaround, you can download and install a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. Then, you can open your company file and migrate your data to QuickBooks Online.

Before doing so, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support first and asking if they can convert your file so you can use the trial version of QuickBooks. Use this link to initiate a chat session: Contact Us.

Once you're able to open your data on the trial version, you can now move your data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. Check out this article for more detailed information: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.
