Join nowMy Client has been using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise with cloud hosting since 2016 and they have 3 business. If the client was to switch to QuickBooks online they would need multiple Online accounts one foe each business correct? How can we retain access to all the historical files?
The client is not utilizing most of the enterprise features but needs cloud hosting, trying to find best solution to save money.

You can use the trial version of QB Desktop Enterprise for good to access your historical data.

Yes, if they have three different businesses, they'll need one QuickBooks Online account for each of them.
As for retaining access to your historical files with QBDT, you'll either need to maintain a QBDT version as well or enter/export all of the data to QBO. Using a trial version of QBDT won't work forever.
