My sales tax reporting seems to be all messed up. My taxes with the State are current, but my payments seem to be missed categorized. How can I fix it?

I have tax payments in Quicken that aren't reconciled (to 2019) and I pay taxes through the State's website. I'm trying to get stuff ready for my Income Tax return.

Hi there, lorettatx.

Welcome to QuickBooks Community. I'll share steps to ensure that your sales tax reporting is accurate.

Since you have tax payments in Quicken that aren't reconciled and you pay taxes through the State's website, you'll have to manually enter a sales tax payment inside QuickBooks Online. Then, reconcile your tax history or the transactions for 2019. This is to make sure that sales tax reporting is correct and appropriate so you're ready for your Income Tax return.

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. In the sales tax Owed list, select and highlight the tax agency you're recording the payment for.
  3. Choose Record payment. Then, select the account you're making the payment from in the Bank Account dropdown.
  4. Select the payment date and tax ending tax period ending dates from the dropdowns.
  5. Choose the payment date and tax ending tax period ending dates from the dropdowns.
  6. Enter the tax payment amount in the Tax Payment field.
  7. When you're ready, select Record Tax Payment. If you need to print a check for the payment, check the Print a Check checkbox and then select Record Payment and Print Check.

Once done, you can now reconcile your 2019 tax payments or transactions so they always match your bank and credit card statements. You can refer to this article to see the detailed steps: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Thanks, ChristieAnn -

This is sort of helpful, but some of the adjustments that have been made I can't delete, which really messes me up.  I'd love to go back and delete all my tax paid information and re-enter it properly, but unfortunately, it's not letting me do this.  Some of this stuff will only let me go back to March 2020, but I want to go back completely and fix everything.  It's the OCD in me.
