(long read but with some sarcasm & levity)
about a week ago I received an email which did come from 'QuickBooksSupport' with a visible email of QuickBooksSupport @ Intuit This email listed the License # & Product number for every Intuit product (QB and tax software) that I've ever had over the last 20 years.
A few minutes later I received a phone call - real shady from 858 | 284 | 3558 - caller ID reads 'QuickBooks' - Google reads scam.
[ they called me again today - see below for more about this ]
Back to the phishing email - at the bottom it reads 'If no one from your company requested this information, please 'contact us'. With the 'contact us' being a hyperlink to the QuickBooks. Intuit website - requiring me to log in - which I did - and then said "Now what" ?
At the very bottom of the email it also read "If you receive an e-mail message that appears to come from Intuit but that you suspect is a phishing e-mail, please forward it immediately to spoof @ intuit.com. and please visit http:// security. intuit. com/ for additional security information"
So, the 'Spoof@" email is a dead email;
the Security.Intuit website is a waste I again logged in and said "Now What" ?
I did call Intuit, and dealt with a representative (outside the US) which sucks because they always read from a script or a index card of words and phrases to say (you know because Americans just love this \s ). And I really couldn't understand her as her accent was getting in the way. The rep seemed to acknowledge this situation but it was all very passive.
In truth I don't feel Intuit has a true protocol to handle such matters, like a bank or credit card bank.
The rep sent me a canned email with a link to provide Feedback - so I have to ask WTF ? Is this how Intuit handles a potential hack - jeez {not sarcasm this time} Considering I received an email with all my license\product numbers I think the Intuit got hacked.
Through a google search I found the email to report this : security @ intuit. com which I did, but have not received a reply other than the standard 'we received your email now read all this canned stuff so you feel like Intuit cares'
This week that Rep emailed me again with the same canned email with the Feedback link, then called me a short time later, and then of course the I received the survey email - Intuit just loves doing surveys smh
Circling back to the phone call today - here's what happened so you can be aware:
The person in a heavy accent, but fair English, said my credit card expired slowly then everything else he spoke fast.
When I tried to get him to repeat it, he spoke fast again. I asked him to tell me what’s my email which is used an amalgamation of part of my email and part of my name.
Thank you so much for bringing your experience to the Community and shedding light on potential phishing activity, AMAcpa.
Intuit takes account and data security very seriously, and I regret that your experience left you feeling that this was not the case. You did the right thing by contacting the security @ intuit email (this was formerly spoof @ intuit). While our security team does not always respond to every email, they do review every report to take action and issue security alerts so that others can be aware of potential scams.
I'd like to get you in touch with someone who can address all of your concerns and make sure that feedback about your support experience gets to the right place, so I've sent a record of your cases to our Office of the President. Someone from that team with reach out within 1 business day to speak with you.
Thank you again, and please don't ever hesitate to reach out to us again in the Community when you need help.
