I am looking for a way to prevent the automatic upgrade of a QBD file to a newer version of QBD. I have a client who uses QBD 2018. I have always been able to use QBD Accountant 2019 to access his files seamlessly (via Qbox). Today when I opened the file I was required to upgrade the file which of course means my client can no longer access the file. Any tips on how to prevent this from occurring? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Thanks for bringing this one to our attention. Let me share some information about the Accountant's Copy feature compatibility in QuickBooks Desktop, vm6.
The option to prevent the automatic upgrade of the company file to a newer one is unavailable in QuickBooks. When using the Accountant's Copy feature, the client and accountant should use the same QuickBooks Desktop version or year. Though your client can still work on the Accountant's Copy using a different version as long as the gap between the versions is just one year, and the accountant has a more recent version.
However, if an accountant makes changes using features that are unavailable in the client's version, changes will not import to the client's file. When this happens, your client needs to upgrade the company file when opening an Accountant's Copy in a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop.
They can install QuickBooks new version on their end. Then, upgrade the company file after switching to a newer version or edition of QuickBooks Desktop.
I've got articles here about resolving errors in Accountant’s copy:
If upgrading the file is not the best option on your client's end, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and check on what they can do. Here's how to reach them:
