Having upgraded to QB 2019 for Mac, I am no longer able to see notes about a customer while viewing their transactions. This is problematic, as I use notes for general information (who to bill, vs. who to send estimates, preferred format, other per-customer quirks).
I cannot find a menu or "view" parameter to change this. I've been thinking about using some other field, e.g. "Contact Name" but that's pretty clumsy.
I know that I can make a feature request. But is there a way most people record and view Notes without having to remember to press the "Notes" button?
Solved! Go to Solution.
When you type the customer name into an invoice or sales receipt the customer notes appear on the right "wing" of the window. Your cashier can see them there. Does that work? You can also see them in the Customer Information window which comes up if you click the pencil icon in the invoice/sales receipt etc next to Notes.
Does that work for you? We did move the notes to the Customer Center but again we are trying to do what QuickBooks Windows does.
The notes have moved to a different tab in the customer center - this reflects the way it is done in QuickBooks Windows. I believe the notes are still available in the customer edit window as well so you could open that up while you are using the customer center.
Or you could view the transactions elsewhere (transaction center, invoice window, etc). Its hard to advise without knowing which windows you were using previously and what precisely changed that is problematic for your workflow. The more detail you provide the better.
First, thanks for the quick and thoughtful reply! I've never actually SEEN the transaction center before, so that's useful, especially when I need to find a recently created thing.
Anyway, I spend the majority of my time in the customer center. If I need to do something (e.g. create an invoice, estimate), I hit the little plus button at bottom. But without the notes, which used to be between the "customer information" and that customer's transactions, I'm not aware of any customization or issues tied to said customer.
> I believe the notes are still available in the customer edit window as well
Nope.
> Or you could view the transactions elsewhere (transaction center, invoice window, etc)
I don't see them notes in either of those places.
But ultimately, I'm fine with change, I'm just wondering how to work most efficiently, how to view notes efficiently, like in a pop-up window? Currently it's cumbersome to click around so much.
Thanks for adding some information, boberonicus.
Viewing the notes of the transactions efficiently would be great product suggestion. You'll want to send feedback to our engineers so they can consider adding it to their future updates. You can send it directly to them by clicking the QuickBooks tab and choosing QuickBooks Feedback.
I'll be around to help you if you need anything else.
Thanks!
How do people view customer notes as a part of their workflow?
Hello boberonicus,
Let me help you view the customer's notes.
You can run and customize the Time by Job Detail report to view the customer's notes. Here's how:
You can check out the QuickBooks for Mac 2019 User's Guide for more details. Just press Command and F, then enter To use the note on an invoice to locate the steps.
That should do it. If there's anything else I can do for you, please don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I'll get back here as soon as I can to help you again.
Thanks! But I'm not looking for notes already entered into a specific job. I'm trying to look at general customer notes. Currently, the only way I can see them is:
> Customer Center
> Click on Customer name
> Click on Notes
This works, but it requires an extra step in my process flow.
Think of it this way. You're a cashier working at the register of a store. Before you perform any transactions at the cash register, there's a slip of paper on the cash drawer. It says "Change for Mr. Jones should be in pennies" and "Invoices for Ms. Smith must be on pink paper", etc.
Oh my god it's right in front of me. Just to the right. Fabulous. No feature request needed. By the way, there's no cashier, no retail. Just me and my traveling laptop.
I have noticed that a pretty common reply in this forum is "please make a feature request". I pushed back on that because I figured that shunting the notes into a window that no one would think to open would have been problematic for a lot of people.
Anyway, thanks for helping me see the light!
