QB Update - editing bills

Since the last QB update (Which I totally hate in every way), I am unable to edit bills. I have a regular bill with recurring charges for about 10 items. I used to be able to copy the previous bill, change the bill number, then insert, remove, or edit lines in the category details. Now when I hover over the 9 dot square on the left to insert a line, it remains gray.

QB Update - editing bills

I’ve got steps to resolve your concern in copying and amending bills in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @shampton.

One of the things preventing you from using the program efficiently is the cache that your browser stores. Generally speaking, having too much cache on your computer might affect the responsiveness and accuracy of a program. We may repair this type of behavior by running typical error-fixing methods on the browser and updating the application's state.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts to open a private browser:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift +N

If you’re able to see your customer’s historical transactions, you can proceed with clearing your browser's cache to keep this from happening again. You can also opt for other supported browsers if you have one.

Moreover, I have a great resource that you can refer to in recording bill payments to keep your records accurate: Enter and manage bills and bill payments in QuickBooks Online

QB Update - editing bills

Once again, QB offers a solution that doesn't apply to the question asked.  Not a problem with the cache - definitely due to the last update.

Previously, when I wanted to make a copy of a previous bill, I would open it, copy the previous bill number, from the menu on the bottom of the screen select "More", then "Copy".  You can still do this, but when you do, a pop-up asking if you want to "Cancel Transaction/Do you want to leave without saving?/No/Yes" comes up.  Those are your only options.

So now I've learned, If I want to use the same billing number sequence, I have to open the previous bill, copy the bill number, exit the bill, then come in again and make a copy of the bill (or select copy from the pulldown menu that says "View/Edit" behind each bill for the vendor), paste in and edit the bill number.  Only an issue when you are trying to save time by copying the previous bill number. The update is a step backward in this regard.

Next issue occurs when you want to insert lines within the copied transaction list.  Previously, when you hovered over the 9-dot patch in the front of each line, a + would appear to insert a line exactly where you want it.  Now, you must “Add Lines” at the bottom of the list of transactions, then drag to the top of the page (not transaction list), stop and insert, scroll up, drag some more, and keep doing this until you've reached the spot in your transaction list where you want the line inserted.  If you have a long list of transactions, it gets tedious as the screen does not scroll as you move the empty line upward.  Repeat for EVERY new line you want to add. This part of the update is THREE steps backward.

Thank You for this work around the insert line for a bill. I hate all these updates that just make more work!
