QBO backup

I have a client currently on desktop that is insisting they move to QBO.

They use a 3rd party to upload data, currently into desktop, but will also have to do it for QBO. We have that part figured out.

However, I currently make a backup in desktop prior to importing data so that if the import goes awry or encounters errors, I can restore my backup.

How can I create a similar backup in QBO before importing data

QBO backup

There is NO user back up for QBO at all

QBO vs QBDT, Check to insure that the functions you use in desktop (QBDT) are even in QBO

QBO backup

Backing up and restoring your data is our top priority, BucksCtyAcct.

You can save online backups of your data when you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advanced. To do this, you'll have to turn this on so your data is backed up automatically every 5 - 10 minutes.

If you're using the regular QBO version, you can export reports and lists into Excel so you can save copies onto your computer's hard drive in case you need some information moving forward. You can also search for a backup application that has similar features by going to the App Center.

Please check out this article for more information: Back Up And Restore Your QuickBooks Online Advanced Company.

You can also browse our help articles in case you have any questions related to QuickBooks. Just make sure to select a product whether it's QBO or Desktop.

QBO backup

So- unless my client upgrades to QBO advanced, I cannot restore from a backup if something goes wrong in a data import?!?

That's ridiculous! Why is such a basic functionality left out of QBO? I have requested this customer NOT switch to QBO just because of issues like this. Unfortunately, I cannot change their mind. Maybe they will change their mind when they see the price they will now have to pay for QBO Advanced, as there is no way I will import files without a way to restore a backup in case the import doesn't go smoothly.

Exporting reports and lists is not going to be of any help if I have an issue in the middle of importing 1500 transactions. I need to be able to restore a backup copy - just like I can in desktop - if something goes awry.

@BucksCtyAcct

You may export all data out to XLS by exporter tool as another option to backup.

Would having desktop hosted in the cloud be something that your client would consider ?

QBO backup

Btks,

I have begged this particular client to do a hosted QB desktop- they are set on moving to QBO - against my recommendation.

I'm actually debating telling this client that if they choose to go with QBO, I don't feel comfortable with a) converting IIF files to QBO with a 3rd party tool, and b) the lack of backup/restore ability, without using yet another 3rd party tool... and that they will have to find someone else.

I hate to do that, but- it's true. I'm really not comfortable with having to jump through hoops just to import the same data I've been importing for years.

Just found out you can't convert back to QB Desktop either without going through those third party apps. On chat and it is a nightmare.
