Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. Let me discuss how migrating your data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO) works with the 2017 version. Then, ensure you can achieve this matter by performing the details below.
Migrating directly from QuickBooks 2017 to QuickBooks Online is currently unavailable. This is because QBDT 2017 is no longer supported and this discontinued version won't receive the latest security patches and updates.
However and as mentioned by Fiat above, when you use an older version of QuickBooks Desktop, you can install a trial version of QuickBooks 2021 and open your company file. That way, you're able to start moving your data from QBDT to QBO. Beforehand, I recommend making sure you have saved a backup copy of your company file.
