Done this twice

This what? Do you need to purchase a new license of QB Desktop 2024 or else?

I thought I might update to 2024 from 2023, but I accidentally said "no" a while back. I did all the steps to bring back the one time notifications, but it's not suggesting I can do that anymore.

I go to File and there is no option for Utilities, there is no option for Verify Data.

I have QB online. If I ever find and run the verify data I may find I want to just delete my whole data file and start over. Apparently the P&L was not available due to a glitch in the program. I thought it was in the way my files migrated - spent over 5 hours on phone with various QB Techs and was then advised to pay for QG accountant services to rebuild my data. I tried to change my files. Then an upgrade came through and LO AND BEHOLD there was the P&L statements.

Now my files are a mess and I think I should delete the whole thing and start over with the migration.

Hello there,

I understand the importance of verifying and rebuilding your data in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Let me share some insights about the missing option to Verify Data.

Data damage in the company file can lead to the missing Verify Data tool. QuickBooks Desktop provides the Verify and Rebuild Data Utility to identify and fix data issues. If the Verify tool finds data damage, the Rebuild tool should be used to resolve it.

In the meantime, I'll walk you through how to delete your data and start over with the migration in QuickBooks Online.

Here's how:

If your QuickBooks Online data is less than 60 days, you have the option to purge your account if you're using QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus, and Advanced. The system deletes all data entered into the company, and you're unable to restore them.

To purge the data, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Change the URL to include /purgecompany.
  3. Example: URL shows https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage, change to: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany.
  4. The next screen will provide a summary of the items to be deleted.
  5. Type the word YES once the data gets deleted, then click OK.
  6. Click Wipe Data once your selections are complete.
  7. Once the deletion is complete, you will be rerouted to your home page.

However, if it's more than 60 days old, you need to cancel your account and start a new subscription.

To cancel your account:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings under Your Company.
  2. Select the Billing and subscription tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks section, select Cancel.
  4. Follow the steps to cancel your account. If you use payroll, you should cancel your payroll account too.

You can visit this article for a detailed information in deleting your data in QBO: Delete your data and start over in QuickBooks Online.

Moreover, I'm adding this article as your reference in importing your QuickBooks Desktop Company file to QBO: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Return to this post if you have other concerns about your company file and data migration in QuickBooks. I'll be here to lend a hand.

The company I work for uses QuickBooks Desktop Pro, and we are currently using the 2023 version. I guess we are on the "Legacy Enhanced Payroll for Unlimited Employees" plan, and our subscription renewed for $850 plus tax in December 2023. I would like to upgrade to the 2024 version before July, but for some reason, the 2024 version of Desktop Pro is not listed in our online CAMPS account for download. EVERY single year going back to 2009 is listed in our account, but 2024 is not there (and I need the product code). I briefly chatted with support, and they tried to tell me that we no longer have "version protection" included with our yearly renewal, so we must separately purchase QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024. Could someone who knows what they are talking about tell me if this is true? Why would we need to separately purchase QB Desktop Pro 2024 at an additional cost when that has never ever been the case in any previous year? (The download has always been available automatically in our account, and we are only ever charged the flat legacy fee (i.e. $850 plus tax in December 2023, $700 plus tax in December 2022, etc.)).

Very misleading information from Intuit Support. I'm not sure if the support person was just ignorant or didn't care to help you. We helped get a new license for a client 2 weeks ago. Intuit has sent the Product and Installation code as usual via email and our client was able to install, activate and run the program without any issues. The problem is that we couldn't find any licensing information in CAMPS until now. We've escalated this issue and they seem to be struggle resolving it since last week.

@4Gal

Did the licensing info just show up in your CAMPS account eventually, or did you have to contact support in order for it to show up? I'd like to avoid contacting support if possible, as the first chat was not at all helpful.

If any others are having the same issue (with the QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024 download and product/installation numbers missing from their CAMPS account) or have seen forum threads mentioning the issue, please let me know. I thought that more people would be complaining, but I really haven't seen that.

@JLe719

I'm not sure what the trigger was but my client was just able to find their licensing information in CAMPS today. The billing team sent us some screenshots of the licensing information in their system yesterday. My client also logged into account manager yesterday and CAMPS was just spinning at the same time.

Maybe after midnight, their billing system refreshed the data and fixed the glitch

Why should you keep the 2023 version?  Can it be uninstalled at some point?

Hi sikomama33,

If you are using desktop only for your business then there is no need to keep the older version. Bookkeepers and accountants will keep multiple versions to ensure they have the same version of QB that their clients are using (which can be multiple versions at any given time).
And yes, the older version can be uninstalled at any time.

They are forcing us to online and even that is a ridiculous price per year.  The fact that they don't give a hoot about the small customers, who made them famous, any longer is a kick to the gut.  I too have been with them over 20 years and I am beside myself trying to figure out my next move.  There are so many counterfeit copies of QuickBooks being sold online for under $200 that I am actually tempted to see if it will work for me, but alas I know they are after my information for a bigger scam so I don't.  But it IS Tempting!  I just wish QuickBooks would remember who made them for the last 3 decades and honestly offer a realistic product to small businesses.

If you don't use any add-ons (e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment), you can keep using 2021 for good.

The potential problem is the bank feed feature after May 2024. You can download .qbo files from your bank BUT you can't import directly into your QB Desktop. If your bank provides *.csv files, you will need to use a 3rd party tool to import it into QB Desktop. It's a $199 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase the license from a partner.

If you prefer to use the bank feed feature with QB Desktop with a non subscription license, you should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for details.

I'm confused and if you can help me I'd appreciate it. I have been slammed by Intuit to convert before May 2024 because my QB Pro 2021 will no longer be supported. Is that not so? My accountant is vehemently opposed to going to QB online and I was going to purchase QB Pro Desktop 2024. Do I need to to this? I thank you in advance for any suggestions.

It's not necessary to update your QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021, @thetagman

Even after this program is discontinued, you will still be able to use it. However, please note that if you don't upgrade your QBDT account, you won't be able to use add-on features such as bank feeds, payments, payroll, and other functionalities. Additionally, you will not receive any major or critical updates from us.

In the meantime, you can upgrade to QBDT Pro 2024 to continue using the application seamlessly. Also, please know that this version will no longer be available to new subscribers starting July 31, 2024.

For more information about service discontinuation, you can visit this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

Moreover, you can refer to these articles to learn more about upgrading your QBDT to the latest release for a more seamless process:

You can always click the reply button if you have further questions about updating your account to the newest release. I'm always here to help you with any queries you may have.

I currently have QB desktop pro plus 2024.  I am not sure about my payroll.  But they were trying to update me to QB "online" saying that in July when my payroll updates, it would be required?  They tried giving me a discount of giving back what I paid to upgrade my QB to 2024.

Do I need to upgrade at all?

Or even just my payroll?

It didn't sound legit to me.......my payroll renews in July.
