Can I delete the password requirement when signing in?

I hear all your sentiments about logging in to QuickBooks that requires a password, @SaveAg.

 

As mentioned by my colleagues, a password is designed to protect your critical data such as your Social Security Number, Company EIN, Bank Information (Routing Number, Account Number), or Vendor Tax ID inside the software. This isn't a requirement from IRS, instead, the software is designed to ensure that your clients’, vendors’, and employees’ information are protected.

 

On the other hand, you have the option to keep yourself logged in for a maximum of 90 days. You can utilize this while we're unable to turn off the password prompt. You'll be logged out after that, and you can use the reset tool in case you forget your password.

If you want to help, remove the password requirement.  I have no SSN info stored on QB, yet I keep getting the irritating and time-wasting password requirements.  I think the excuse that QB requires a password when the SSN is stored is an excuse that is not based in reality.  I think you are just being lazy and/or covering up incompetence - or you just don't want to spend the time and money necessary to fix the flaw.  The main problem is that there is no competitive software priced for a small business, so you act like a monopolist.

 

If I recall correctly, the 90-day exemption isn't new (maybe it was 60 days previously?).  It's been around for a while, but it serves no purpose, other than to frustrate users.

Agree, annoys the chit out of me (the only user and owner of the computer) to have to keep entering a pw & on top of the it has to be a complicated one. Stop being our nanny QB.

Even if there is a 'stay logged in' function, that doesn't help me because I have 8 small companies that I need access to and so I have to log in & out of each one, every time.  VERY frustrating!

Hi guys,

I am using QBD Prem 2020.

Where is that "stay logged in" function? I don't recall having seen this before.

Further, when I shutdown QBD then start it again, would it automatically log back in with my last user id?

At least that would be a "relieve" as I am also not a fan of Intuit forcing me to use a password.

It's nice to see you joining the thread, @gerdgoebel. I'll outline a couple of handy details about your login concerns.

 

Yes, we can change your login settings for QuickBooks Desktop Premier in just a few clicks. I'd be glad to show you how:

 

  1. Go to the Company menu, then select Set Up Users and Passwords.
  2. Click Manage Login Settings and go to General.

     
  3. Enable the Keep user logged in for option in the Company Preferences window.

 

From there, the admin chooses how long users can remain logged in, with a maximum of 90 days and a default of 2 days.

 

Once enabled, going to File, then Close Company will only close the company file and not log off the user.

 

If you've shut down your QBDT, you'll only be required to enter your username and password again if you've logged off or the set period has expired. Otherwise, you'll be automatically logged in.

Thank you very much for your tip. I changed the days to 90, closed the company file, started it again and no password popup anymore. Same when I exit QBD then start it again, no password entry anymore.

I assume, this change is saved within my company file, thus, when I copy it to my notebook and open the company file there it will not require a password on the notebook either.

I can live with the 90 day interval.

When resetting passwords, all details entered must be the same with what we have in our system.  This includes email address, main business phone number, and zip/postcode of the primary contact on the account. 

 

To verify the information that we have on your account, you can log in to the Customer Account Management Portal Site (CAMPS). Yu can also see the following details after signing in:

 

  • License and product number
  • User limit
  • Payroll service key, EIN, subscription number, and other payroll subscription details
  • Product edition and version info
  • What's included in your Care plan

 

Let me show you how:

 

  1. Go to this link and log in to your account: camps.intuit.com.
  2. If you see multiple products to choose from, select QuickBooks Desktop to go to CAMPs.
  3. Find your app or subscription in the Products & Services list.
  4. Click Details to see more account information

Your users are very, very clearly telling you it has nothing to do with security, so you are lying. Why won't you just be honest? Why do you refuse to be helpful instead of being obtuse and passive-aggressive like this? What do you get out of mocking and alienating users like this?

I've followed all of the responses to this query.  While I have our main company file in QBD, we have added a second business on the same QBD.  When I log into that business, it DO NOT ASK for a password.  I'm not sure why this is so different.  However, I have followed the instructions for the staying logged in for 90 days, change it to 90 days, saved the option, and closed QBD.  Opened up QBD again and it's still asking me for a password.  

Similar to a lot of the commenters, I am the only person who uses QBD in this business and the office is in a family home.  There is NO security risk whatsoever. 

 

Edited to add, you need to go to FILE, CLOSE COMPANY.  This is when it takes effect.  Simply clicking the X at the top right of QBD doesn't do anything.
