Upgrading a second company

I had two companies in my old version of Quickbooks 2015. I upgraded to Quickbooks 2020 using one of my companies successfully. How do I now upgrade my second company into QB 2020?

Upgrading a second company

I'm here to help you out upgrading your company file, @PapaSonn.

When you open your company file on the new version of Quickbooks, it can no longer be open using the old version. QuickBooks Desktop for Mac may automatically upgrade and open your last used company file.

To upgrade the other company file that you have, here are steps:

  1. Make a backup copy of your company file using the old version of Quickbooks Desktop for Mac, Go to File then select Back up.
  2. Open your new version of Quickbooks.
  3. Go to File then Open company.
  4. Select your file and then click Open.

If you have a local back up stored on you Mac, you can also locate the backup copy then open.

To know more about the QuickBooksMac 2020, click on this link: Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020.

Let me know if you have any confusion, I'm just one comment away.

Upgrading a second company

My second company did not show up when I did the steps you gave me.  It looks like my last backup is stored in Documents ICloud but I can't find it from the QB File, find new company tab.

Thanks,

John

When I tried the steps you gave me my second company did not come up as an option.  My file looks to be stored on iCloud documents, but I can't access it from QB2020.  Other thoughts?

Thanks,

John

Thanks for getting back to us with additional details, John.

Let's download or move the second company in your local storage. Once done, restore the file so it would ask you to update the file.

Please see this article on how to restore a company file: Restore your backup company file for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

You can also reach out to our Technical Support Team for QuickBooks for Mac just in case you can't still see the second company. You can contact them in between Monday to Friday, from 6 AM to 6 PM PDT. Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Select QuickBooks Mac Desktop.
  3. Select Company File.
  4. Scroll-down a little bit and click Start a Message

I'll be around if you need anything else.

I've tried to post a reply a couple of times, so if this is a duplicate I apologize, but I don't see my reply anywhere.

I went through the steps outlined below and I don't see my second company come up when I try to open a company in the 2020 QB version.  I don't know if it just can't find where I have my QB2015 company stored or what.  It appears it backup to iCloud documents.  In QB2020 it doesn't show ICloud documents as an option to connect to.

Thanks,

John

Thank you for getting back to us here on the Community page, @PapaSonn.

Whenever you want to open your company file from any Mac to which you've signed in to iCould, you have to follow these steps:

  1. Choose Finder, then iCloud Drive.
  2. Navigate to your company file.

As always, feel free to visit the QuickBooks for Mac Little Square page and download the User's Guide in case you need tips and related resources while working with QuickBooks in the future.

Post again if you have any other questions. I'm a few clicks away to help. Have a good day!

Not sure how to do this: "Let's download or move the second company in your local storage."  I'm having a hard time finding the second company file.  It is stored under iCloud documents, but I can't find it using Finder.
